Thought I would throw up an album of photos of "Otto" my 1975 2002 I am building up to go vintage racing in the North East.

Unknown engine internals, though I was told by the P.O. it has some minor headwork done. It will be sporting twin Mikuni 44 side draft carbs, welded rear end (3.91), stock 4-speed, solid engine mounts, poly everything bushings, except where the poly wouldn't cooperate and delrin had to be used.

SPAX adjustable suspension with lowered springs, and a bit of an homage on the front disc brake ducts. Running EBC yellowstuff race pads, stock calipers and rear drums. Solid rotors.

Exhaust will be straight pipe, with a side exit pipe just ahead of the driver's side rear wheel. I will update as things progress. If you're in the N.E. and want to hit a road race organized by VRG, VSCCA, SVRA, etc...let me know! He's for rent.

Cheers,

Ian

It's a very nice car, particularly now that it's wearing Jagermeister livery.

Should be racing for sure at the Jefferson 500 at Summit Point, WV next spring, and might/possibly/maybe be racing before the 12 Hours of Sebring with SVRA.

I have some more pictures of it I will put up once I get them downloaded.

Cheers,

Ian

P.S. There's like, 6 more where that came from...if you're looking for some aircooled goodness...

Thought I would update this as we've made a bit of progress; I will have better photos once I take my DSLR to the garage. If anyone has any questions, let me know.

Here is some video of the car running:

In addition I added a couple of (bad) cell phone photos to the album.

Went to Summit Point, WV for the Jefferson 500 this weekend. Made it through the test day but lost oil pressure at the end of the day, so we get to tear down and re-build the motor for July and the Pittsburgh Vintage GP.

Nice build, good-looking car. (and agreed, bummer about the oil pressure...) -KB

Definitely a bummer. Now I need to start figuring out the specs on the new engine. Need a nice work list for a long lasting race motor, which probably means a less than full-out race cam, and plenty of time spent balancing the rotating parts...

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
