Pictures of the 1500 at the BMW museum

Great museum pics (love the stacked cars on cables) and good to see progress on your NK. Mine is still looking at me in the workshop as I fix a bust gearbox on my old Jandrover Discovery, but it's next on the list and I've been stockpiling most of the parts she needs.

If you didn't find a better pic of that engine bay sticker I sent you I came across this the other day:

Hi everyone,

I just recently updated my blog (see sig) with a recent visit to the BMW museum, including many pictures of the 1500 they have on exhibit.

Nice pictures Luis. One would think they'd wash the car before putting it in the museum though. Oh well, budget cuts, I guess.

Nick,

Man, that's a perfect sticker. Do you have an opportunity of taking that lid and either running a photocopy of it and see how it turns up or take a perfect, straight-on photo? In my efforts to reproduce it, I actually took the one you sent me and put it through a font recognition machine online and it suggested a font that is close but not spot on. There is another forum where font savants can look at it and identify it but no one came forth with any suggestions :(

What all are you doing to your car this winter?

Dirk, I was surprised the underneath was all splashed up with marks of dirty water. The top actually looked pretty good but the flash brings out every speck. But the place is not like the auto shows where they have a gaggle of flunkies with California dusters wiping down the cars all day :)

Hi Rey,

I added a few more pictures of the 1500 and that's all I have. I couldn't get a better view of the center console. I didn't think the 1500 cars had a center console, that must have been added. Also, the shading in black in the numbers I don't think it's factory. And there was no provision for a stereo in the 1500 since it had the painted exposed metal dash where later cars had the pre-punched holes covered by the plastic trim. Remember you can click on the pictures to see them larger.

I took this picture of the airbox in Meg Vanderliest's Manila 1967 1600 at the Mid-America '02 Fest this past spring.

Excellent! We found the source and it's in the Midwest...! I'll try to go to some of the '02 meets next season so maybe I can take a photo that will lend itself to reproducing the sticker. Do you have other pictures Jim, or have contact info for the owner?

Meg lives in the K.C. Missouri area and can be contacted thru Keith Kreeger (my2002tii fame). Keith has featured her car on his website right after she purchased it from the original owner.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
