having trouble with throttle rod on 38 weber carb. for my 02

Total mech noob here. :/ so need some good (detailed) advice PLEASE!!

bought a '74 2002 like I've wanted for oh so long :)

upgrading to weber 38 carb.

extraction of the solex went fine and upon getting the weber on I noticed my

throttle rod problem. I tried to label driver/pass sides of carb, but figure most of you know this thing really well anyhow.

Weber came dressed as so, with this piece included (fingered).

I assume I need to use the other linkage and turn 180 degrees, but this required screw (fingered) will not let it seat correctly.

I took other bolt off my solex (in pix above) assuming I need that too?

my throttle rod is stock which has the female part that fits to this bolt and with a rod coming off towards driver side.

*Any help is greatly appreciated****

Can't wait to get this puppy back on the road and feel the 38 difference ;)

@ esty. omg didn't think of that. i'll try that def. Thanks a bundle.

@ glenns yes i did see that awesome faq page and didn't see how to fix

the exact problem i was having. i saw that it said to use old linkage and such.

thanks for the reply and link.

<3n this site already at only a week in of owning my 02 :)

i have 2 38/38's on 2 of my o2 and i had the same problem...take the screw out so that you can separate the ratchets or gears and turn the one with the screw in it up one notch...

actually this did not work for me. you said you've done this with success? maybe i'm missing something, but when i turn the ratchet one notch up and then put the screw back in, it is still in same position relative to the throttle post. i'm only about 1mm off from getting this thing to slide on.

i can get the 02 linkage arm on and THEN put the screw back. it stays on,

but doesn't not sit flush and i don't feel safe about it.

as in this faq post picture sits flush. 38linkage2-640.jpg

thanks for all help and input :)

************maybe another option is to slightly grind down the linkage arm so the screw could have clearance?

i'm pretty certain that was the way i fixed the linkage problems but i'll take a look tomorrow when i have some daylight and report back...i might have offset the gears 2 or more notches...i just don't remember how much but it was only enough for the linkage to clear that screw head....i'd say just offset or turn the front gear up enough so the linkage clears the screw head drive the car and see what you think...

i recall it was quick and simple and i've never had any issues that i'm aware of...grinding down the linkage was my 1st thought but the gear trick was easier for me

am I the only one here who thinks that will unsync the barrels?

I too had alignment problems- I had the smaller solid rod type,

so I grabbed both ends of the rod with 2 pairs of

vice grips and twisted it until it fit the way I wanted.

Crude? for sure. But it worked fine.

The hollow version will be harder, no doubt.

not unsync - but the molested gear is now not opening

FULL OPEN at full throttle ? kinda defeats the whole 38/38

upgrade if so.

yeh it doesn't seem to unsync, but i'd imagine c.d.iesel is right about not open fully. I think i'm going to try the grinding down method on the linkage arm.

thanks for all the wonderful input every1. i'll post success/fail info.
