I just picked up 2 blanks for the door/ignition and 2 blanks for the trunk from Blunt last week...I wasn't impressed w/ my local BMW dealer, as he said to get a key, I had to order the ENTIRE ignition lock/switch assembly...Haven't taken the blanks yet to the local locksmith....

Might want to check ahead w/ a locksmith before you take your steel blanks in to be cut. Many do not want to cut steel keys - too hard on their equipment. Very few will be willing - maybe one in twenty. Just a "heads up".

Ditto ! I did not sample 20 locksmiths, but my local 2 refused to cut steel keys. Those blank are sitting unused in a box. He did cut me a "similar" key made from softer metal. If I were you I would not buy a BMW blank, if you have a key now, just take it to a locksmith and ask for a copy.

Hmmm. Never run into one that WOULDN'T cut my steel blanks. But yeah, call ahead . . . . .

I called the first locksmith about cutting these steel keys, and they said no. Today, I just happened to pass an Ace Hardware store, and had them cut the keys w/o any problems. THis is even after I mentioned that if they wouldn't cut steel ones, I'd understand. Their response was indifference. Keys work great. FYI, these were the steel blanks I ordered from Blunt.
