I lost spark to (I think it was) #3 cylinder on a pertronix a few years ago - it started out as an intermittent miss and quickly got worse. One I recognized the lack of spark, I started by replacing the plug, then the wire, then the distributor cap (spare good used parts). Finally, I removed the pertronix and went back to points/condensor - problem solved! I'm not sure what went wrong, loss of a magnet on the plastic ring that goes around the distributor shaft makes the most sense, but it looked intact.

Sam, I think we may have a winner..

Yesterday, we swapped plugs and wires around, I bought a new cap, pulled the cover and checked the valve train, and performed a compression check. Only to find NO reason that the #3 cylinder gets NO spark!!

Very late follow up..  

 

I installed a points distributor after that last post and it took care of the issue.  It was a bad Pertronix unit.

I ran the points for almost a year before unexpectedly scoring an unused XR3000 for a 50 spot on Craigslist.  I am running that now.

2002 newbie, and dead serious about it.
