Weird Noise; Bad CV Joint?

My `67 1600 has developed a popping/binding/slapping noise that I've isolated to the driver's side rear wheel. It occurs once or twice per revolution and ceases under load or heavy braking. This started a two days ago and I stopped driving it immediately.

CV joint?

History: I swapped the original 1600 halfshafts (the kind with inboard U-joints) for normal 2002 halfshafts from a `76 2002. At the same time, I swapped the rear drums for E21 drums. The 1600 has a longneck differential and the 2002 halfshafts that I swapped in were from a shortneck differential car.

CV joint? Wrong halfshafts? Any other ideas?
