specs for new headliner

I need to replace my headliner in my 1972. A master classic vehicle restorer - now retired - told me they come in two configurations - one with a measurement between roof seams of 11" and the other 14" He measured mine but I forget how he did it.

This applies to the non-sunroof model.

Anyone ever hear of this difference in headliners?

Thanks all

Yeah, my seams are 11" apart. Now I just have to make sure the vendor I choose - I hear from this forum that goliners is good - understands that there are two styles.

If you care about the originality, Goliners kit doesn't use the original snake skin off-white material, although it is pretty nice and fairly priced. Maximilian sells a kit in original material iirc, also check 2002haus, he was selling new kits (in original material) as of last week. Any competent upholstery shop can match the vinyl and sew a kit if you give them the old headliner to be used as a template.

i've ordered 3 headliners from goliners, all fit as they should and it was never asked of me whether i had 11 or 14 inch centered bows...

simply order a headliner for a non-sunroof car and it'll fit

...I bought one from Whitney's...

I had to re- seam it three times to get it to fit,

but it does now.

it's that cool perforated vinyl that is very non- original.

It was also $69, so that should tell you it wasn't this decade...

I just got an email from headlinersexpress that states:

"It would be monday before i can check the pattern for the measurement 11" between the seams (they also made a version with 14" between".

So it seems my retired expert did know what he was talking about - could be for European cars, but it never hurts to measure twice and cut once, as they say.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
