M42 or M44 engine swap into an 02?

It's a good idea, but nope, it's got a wet sump - owners says he hadn't experienced a problem as it's pretty much in line with the front wheels, but it certainly looks scary low.

That is ludicrous. I understand that it is inline with the wheels but that wont save you from debris or even a bad pot hole. Anyone got a good pic of the same view but of the engine mounted hire? Just wondering what pan clearance is like on swaps like JakeB's.

The M20 in a 2002 sits pretty low too. Some type of metal of guard needs to be mounted in front of the pan, behind an air dam.

This one is too low, and the car is not even lowered. I went out and looked at my M42 powered E30 and the pan is also low. My car is lowered but not radically. The only encounters I have had was with fallen rocks on a mountain road. I hit on once but I think I missed the pan. There wad no damage I could see but I did hear the horrific noise when the rock hit something...

Too many chances for something to go wrong.

It appears that until I can afford an S14 engine swap, I will have to rebuild the current motor and beef it up with a cam, pistons, and larger weber. Afraid to port and bore.

I am going to have to contribute to the site a bit more. It has saved me lots of time and money.
