Fear of Jackstands

Anyone have the fear that something will happen to the jackstands and the car will fall on em?

I don't know why but every time I think of getting under a car or do it I get kinda freaked out. Even if the car is secure.

Anyone else feel like that haha?

PS: This is what happens when I do boring math homework.

I always have two jackstands, and the floor jack as a back-up before getting under a car. I'll only ever move the floorjack if its in the way of what I'm working on, and try to put it somewhere else if possible. I also sometimes try to put the wheels/tires somewhere underneath the car, which could catch some of the weight from falling all the way to the ground.

Also, I always make sure the pavement is secure underneath the jackstands. If you have to work on it in a field/mud/gravel, try to find some boards to put underneath them. I also try to locate concrete blocks and bricks to place under frame rails... if you don't have access to 2 jackstands (or trust them).

I always SHOVE the car once its on the stands. If that doesnt knock it over/down, I feel pretty safe.

I like to rock it back and forth, and check for any movement. One thing I see a lot is people not using stands when doing brakes. Yea your not getting completely under the car but imagine if you leg were to get crushed in between the ground and your break rotor.

THIS IS GOOD. THIS SORT OF THINKING IS WHAT TENDS TO KEEP YOU ALIVE.

IF YOU DON'T, YOU PROBABLY USE CINDER BLOCKS AND 2x4s.

After you have enough close calls and skinned knuckles, you start to look at cause and effect. As in: When this wrench slips off the bolt, where will my knuckles end up?

Haha, doing my oil change several weeks back, still the amateur I am I was using all my strength to get the bolt on the oil pan off (Was torqued or sumtin) and bam it let loose and my arm when flying on the nose leaving skin dangling on the sheet metal lol...

Def tapping with a hammer now.
