Hi group:

http://answnj.ebizautos.com/detail-1972-bmw-2002_tii-2002_tii-used-6087235.html

Discription said 'automatic' and I can see that is not right

Front grill looks odd to me

Price is bit steep for what I am seeing, but it is a dealer so.......

Color is cool! Have not seen too many 72 mntgrn tii's

It is near my zipcode!

thoughts?

Looks to be a nice example from the photos. One thing that jumped out at me is the statement that it "Passed through dealer inspection" and "Dealer maintained". I wonder how many BMW Dealerships have service technicians knowledgable on 38 yr.-old tiis. Hope it checks out OK and you get the car.

I was wondering whatever happened to this car. It was here in Maryland at a place called Flemings Ultimate Garage and they wanted 19,900 but they took a lot of hits for the over spray and the lack of attention to detail for the price.

Looks Taiga to me, not Mintgrun.

I think it's been discussed here. Green hood release bar would make me consider walking away. But that's just me. ;-)

Cheers,

Yes Tiaga, my bad!

Keep poking holes in this, I already think of walking away from a dealer @$17,500.

But I would still love to see and test drive it!

This one has been beat to death for a year.. There used to be pics of it pre-resto. Rusty car it was.

Maybe Les has images saved..

So it was rusty, big deal. They're all rusty pre-restoration. You just need to properly inspect them, in person not in photos, prior to purchase so you know the restoration was done right.

The grills don't have the black inserts, the intake pipes are not plastic & that isn't an auto shifter. other than that it looks nice thought the price seems a bit high imo but what do I know.

The thing that stands out to me is the notch cut in the heater cowl for the timing light their is no way a 72 would have this cutout as it was not fitted of needed on plastic runner cars, unless it was added later and this one seems way to smooth to be cut by hand, you would have to see the car in person and check the vin but I would bet it's a latter 73

I luv you guys!

I feel like I took the whole group with me on this test drive.

I still want to DRIVE the sucker. My last and only test drive of a tii left a lot to be desired. I need the experience.

I will check back again and keep on lurking!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
