Emergency Brake Handle Perch is Breaking....argh

Recommended Posts

at the angle, the easiest way to repair is with some good, hefty steel pop rivets. Use the proper length 3/16" size (not 1/8") and use steel, not aluminum rivets. And use a big rivet gun; more leverage.

Properly installed, two or three on each side should fasten the bracket down nice and firm; just make sure the bracket itself isn't cracked.

Or...you can remove the seats and carpet, and mig weld the bracket back in place, then repaint the area.

I think I'd opt for the rivets...

Hey Clay,

I should be back in town this weekend if ya need some help. I've welded up a bunch of them in the past and its not too difficult. The fix that I prefer is to replace the stock handbrake lever with one from an e30 modified to fit. It is so much F'in better (in my opinion...) Search the forum for "hannigan handbrake".

Oh yeah, I can also grab the valve covers...

Hi Clay,

Funny you should bring up this topic. While tracking down a Very annoying buzzing sound in the 72 tii I found this, see pic, another Fine example of the cccmanhattan's welding.

I like the pop rivet idea, I gotta see if my big rivet tool is here, though the mount might be too far gone.

Let me know if you need a hand.
