Electrically handicapped home made plug possible?

Recommended Posts

This has been the weekend of the wiper motor I have taken apart and thus destroyed the functioning motor out of my 1600. I have decided to purchase a new one. I feel like I have wasted the 4-5 hours I spent not fixing my problem :super slow wipers: hopefully I am learning b/c that is time that I will never get back.

ANYWAY:: I have a 1971 1600 witht the wiper switch pull knob in the cluster

MY Problem IS:

All the wiper motors for sale (and that I have now purchased) have a five pin round plug.

Mine (since destroyed and removed) had three wires (yellow, green and black) and a (brown wire)ground and no plug. Each wire was connected to the wiring (harness) via individual male and female connectors for each wire

My questions is:

Can I cut the (round) plug off my new wiper motor?

Then strip the wires?

and add male female connectors as needed?

If the round plug was five pin and my old set up had 4 wires and I am going to have an extra wire?

All help is greatly appreciated

KEVIN

Wiring and electrical stuff makes my head hurt and brain cramp.

I don't know? this is why I have trouble...whats the diff.?

I have a 1971 1600 with the pull knb switch on the right side of the cluster panel

its a 6 fuse but never heard 6 volt

its got a 12v battery and I have always treated like a 12volt

How do I know/tell?

If it is are they compatible?

You folks are great.

John I am going to call the autoelectric guy.

Turns out I do have a 12 volt set uo so no problems there

and that I can use a newer motr but that I might have to drill or goof with the positioning...per Mike in Ohio

I'll keep you updated

Update-

I took my motor to a auto electric guy and he wasn't thrilled with fact that I had dismantled and cleaned it. He seemed fairly confident that that he could fix it quote 50-75...not crazy about the price (its more than fair) but i will have the piece of mind that it is functioning and properly

Thanks
