Painfully slow wiper fix....Will it work?

Recommended Posts

Ok I have reviewed all the threads in trying to fix my super slow but functionally wiper so I have removed the wiper assembly and freed the motor and taken of the back of the big round gear that is powered by the worm gear:

BEFORE I PUT IT BACK I want to cover all of my bases::

A couple of observations:

the gear looks clean but the grease is old , a little dry

the threads say add new grease, a couple drops of engine oil or something equivalent...is that all there is too it?? (too clean out the old seems that it would be impossible)

UPDATE:

GREASE ADDED Cover replaced is there a way to test it w/out putting it back together

Also the pivot points seem to have a fair amount of play...does it matter? and if so how do I snug it up w/out replacing parts?

ALL help greatly appreciated

KEVIN

PS I have looked in Haynes, Resto guide and workshop manual

The wiper mechanism in the 2002's is tough to remove around the heater fan. I took mine out while working the heater box.

If your pivots look anything like mine did, then plan on getting another used assembly or replacing ALL the parts.

The left and right pivots are different and don't come with all the hardware.

Here is the motor pivot shaft

And the (2) rods that connect the motor to the wiper arm pivots

I tinkered enough over the last 48 hours and I am convinced that even though it was operable when I removed it ....it now is no longer

I'm in the market for a new one

thanks for the help
