FUEL TO FUEL PUMP ON A 72

Can anyone tellme if thereis an electronic fuel sending unit that delivers fuel to the mechanical fuel pump on a 72 02? It seems like no fuel is being delivered to the fuel pump because no fuel is visible in the clear fuel filter. The fuel pump is brand. Was working b4 i tried to rebuild the carb

no. mech pump does it all. if not fuel at pump, either system is clogged, break in fuel line, or pump not working.

or you are out of gas....:-)

Check the screen on the bottom of your fuel sender, it may be clogged.

ahhh, in the fuel tank.

do I have to remove the whole fuel tank or is that think that looks like a cap on the fuel tank

The fuel sending unit on a 2002 is a twist-in cylindrical item.

Disconnect the battery!, remove the fuel line and wires, then twist the unit until it releases from the tank. Pull it out and examine the fine mesh screen on the bottom of the unit. Chances are it needs to be cleaned/replaced.

Check your float valve sounds like its stuck closed.... Always start with what you changed first before you go terring your whole car apart!!!!

You can prime the pump by blowing pressurized air into the fuel tank.

Sometimes the old ones struggle to prime.

i pulled the sending unit and cleande the filter. The tank was bone dry-leads me to think there is a leak in the tank. When I actually drovew the car I p ut 20 bucks in and drove it 40 miles and have since put a gallon or two in it it and only droveeit around the block. If course when I pulled the sending unit the filter fellinto the gas tank
