5-speed conversion - Output seal - Nut removal

I am in the middle of a speed conversion on my 74tii and wanted to replace the output seal the 5-speed transmission that's going into the tii. I have been searching the board trying to find the right size deep socket wrench to remove that nut that holds in the output flange so I could replace the output seal. Well, I also did a goggle search and found this information on one of the e30 boards. You can use a deep socket 30mm made by Gearwrench that is thin enough to fit without doing any shaving/grinding on the socket. I picked one up on Saturday from my local Advanced Auto for about $11.00 including tax. Item number is 80826. It is a 12 point socket if that makes a difference, but I wanted to avoid grinding any more of my tools. I have already grounded down my 24mm combo tool to separate my driveshaft.

Just thought I would share.......

That is a nice tip, I spent too much and the damn thin walled socket, which I then destroyed the first time I used it (thankful for warranty).

Can you add this to -> http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,328295/

That thread. I made an updated Getrag 245 install FAQ.

Hazet is a german tool company they make the correct 30mm. thin wall socket and the wrench for the drive shaft. but they are super expensive so buying a chinese socket and grinding it down is pretty cost effective for a 1 time use DIYer.

Well, I am learning so much from this 5-speed conversion, I doubt this will be a one time use for me.... and I didn't even have to do any grinding. I am already planning on doing the Polaris '75 or the beater Chamonix since I have another 5 speed transmission in the garage.
