hi all. i know this subject has been covered many a-time before but still need help. my car was running just fine, didnt run it for a month, but then drove it to work this week. when i parked it at work, i revved it then it died. from all ive read on the faq, it points to a clogged idle jet. fuel tank recently professionally cleaned, new fuel filter, carb cleaned out and rebuilt about 9 months ago. ive been searching and looking visually on where and how the idle jet is cleaned out but am still unsure.

its a stock 69 1600 solex single

please dont rake me over the coals!

I believe the idle jet is on the passenger side of the carb; It should look like a brass screw with a ball in the slot where the screwdriver goes. Take it out, spray the bejesus out of with with cleaner, then reinsert.

When this happened to me, it was the tiniest little thing blocking the jet, it's very strange how something so small could have such an impact on how the car runs. Ah, the dark magic of carbs.

My 69 came factory equipped with trash in the fuel system when it was new--took me months to get it all cleared out. If you've ever wondered why there's a small hole in the air cleaner support bracket closest to the cylinder head, it's to allow you to unscrew the idle jet without removing the air cleaner!

Remove jet, clean the jet and then give the hole it came out of a nice long blast with your carb cleaner. Hopefully that'll do the trick.

cheers
