BLUNT: peddling crack cocaine? (joke, long)

stuff

Recommended Posts

Please note: No highly esteemed or venerable '02 part suppliers were maligned or defamed in the writing of this post. Nor were kittens hurt. All in good fun, honest guv'nor.

Tonight's task was a light re-furb the old gals' rear end (pun intended). Nothing major, just some new rubber bushings, Bilstein sports, spring perch rubber, etc. Two hours later, I'm all giddy. Grinning inanely, and all kinds of happy with the world. It’s like crack cocaine, I swear.

I think he somehow mixes the crack into the mold release... that greyish residue you get on new rubber parts. It must be how he does it. I fastidiously rub all of the residue off the rubber parts by hand, then curse the "mechanic" who saw fit to secure the upper shock mounting nuts once and for all with just a “small dab” of weld, fit the parts, go for a drive. No more clunk in the trunk! The giddiness starts.

And then I want more rubber. Lots more rubber from BLUNT. I’m hooked. The high is transitory and I begin to come down as I scope out the front end. Mmmm.. replace front strut bearings. Mmmm.. engine mounts. Ooo.. tranny mount? They all look fine, but I haven't touched them in the short time I've had the old gal, so who knows? Better safe than sorry, I say. A junkie can always justify the next fix!

No urethane yet for the rear subframe yet (winter project) so I can't comment on the effects or even existence of TEP's or Ireland's recreational pharmaceuticals yet. Maybe you can?

As I used new OEM ones, I have some Bilstein rear strut bushings left over if anyone wants them for just shipping and handling. They didn’t come from BLUNT… so no residue… so no use to me… ;)

Anyone else hooked on replacing rubber parts or am I alone?

(Steve - no offense meant, of course! I'll be in touch...)

Cheers,

I'm also experiencing this rubber fix you speak of. I just recently bought an aresenal of rubber from Mr. Blunt. All new seals (doors, windows, vents, bumper strips, etc, etc.). i haven't got to the underside of the car yet. Well actually, i did the front subframe with new urethane some time ago but i haven't touched the rear end and I'm yearning to get there. I just ordered new rubber for where the windshield wipers connect to the body. that rubber was toast! As was the piece on the steering rod.

i've replaced so much rubber on my car it's incredible. If i've learned one thing during my resto project it's about the importance of good rubber. Dry, cracked, hard rubber dramatically effects the performance, handling, and presentation of the car and is a huge contributor to rust! oh the agony i have experienced fixing rust that could have been prevented if the PO had only replaced old rubber with new!

those little rubber finishing pieces that go at each end of the doors--the front one seals the vent window frame to the door, and the rear one finishes the opening where the glass resides.

Ahhhhhh....

stretching it

behehehehe....

i was very very happy with my all-oem rubber refab via mr. wegweiser in his former life. one thing i wanted to say is that its NOT a good idea to remove that white haze from your new rubber... leave it alone as it is good protection for the rub. ahh such pun possibles....
