Lug nuts for E-30 wheels

Recommended Posts

DO NOT use the 2002 steel wheel lug nuts unless you want to lose wheels whilst in motion--or ruin the wheels.

I'm sure someone on the board knows of a commercially available aftermarket lug nut that will work equally well, but I know the factory alloy lug nuts work.

cheers

YES - ALLOY WHEEL NUTS & BOLTS ARE DIFFERENT

THAN STEEL RIMS HARDWARE- yes 02 alloy same as E21/E30

taper/contour (factory rims that is)

yer on your own with aftermarket

wheels which can have 'other' lug hole seating

Turns out this is a very relevant thread for me, as it was just pointed out to me that the alloy E21 "turbine" wheels on my recently purchased 02 are bolted on with the steel lug nuts. I have to admit, that's not something I would have noticed.

Anyway, that raises a couple of questions:

1. What is the likelihood that my wheels are damaged? And how would I recognize such damage?

2. Does anyone know the correct torque to use when I replace with the correct lugs?

Thanks!

Hugh

1. = look at the tapered hole in the rim ?

if it's distorted, scored, gouged - it should be a mirror of the nut/bolt 's taper

smooth and flat surface

2. = Wheel nuts or studs Nm 81 - 89 lb.ft 59 - 64
