finish removing the strut housing/tube

clamp in a huge vice without crushing the tube

apply mild heat (MAP gas torch) to the bottom

I got mine out the other day by putting a smaller closed end wrench underneath the 17mm bolt on the top. I think I used a 16mm, and then beat up on the wrench with a hammer. The right side took some beating, but it finally slid out.

my front strut inserts are rusted in how do i get them out? the struts are still attached to the car i just got the gland top nut off but the inserts are rusted in. can anyone help?

This is a tough job on a 35 + year old car...it was my first project on my car...I ended up buying 1 new strut tube and the other one had to be heated with a torch in order to get the insert out.

Mine were very rusty when I went to remove them also. I wound up putting some large washers under the top nut, heating the tube with a torch and pounding on the washers till it broke loose. Also after i heated the tube i gave it some love taps with a BFH to loosen up the rust and they eventually slid out. If the threads give out on the nut just weld the washers to the top and continue. Good luck, they will come out eventually.
