Under hood insulation Help request

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any good suggestions for applying the foam noise insulation pads on the underside of the hood? I'm getting ready to put in some new ones, and thought I'd just ask for advice from the experience here.

Thanx Dick

I'm just going with the foam type on this car. I am mainly interested in what "glue" or technique to use to bond them to the hood.

Thanx...

Make sure you get them positioned properly. Take a good look at some of the threads you will turn up.

Here is an original hood foam. I believe the pad on the left and in the middle is 13"x19" and the one on the right is larger

Check out Woody's foam (4th Sticky down on the Parts For Sale page)

High tech stuff used in the space shuttles, I've had mine in for about 6 mos. and like it very much. Glued it down with 3M Spray Adhesive (don't remember is I used #77 or #80 - ask Woody which is correct if you go with his foam).

The pieces cover the entire underside of the hood, so if you're contemplating entering a concours and originality is a concern you might want to go with pads from the dealership, though I'm not sure todays ones are the same as the OEM.
