Just a rant....sorry but had to say it somewhere....Just had to go to LA and back in 100 degree heat and even though its got some strange cooling system issue (runs hotter at 85+ mph than it used to, under that perfectly normal) it ran like a champ the whole time. Purred like a kitten when in bumper to bumper traffic with the temp needle 1/3 up on the gauge and when I stepped on it, it jumped up and growled. It also was such a nice day, windows down, sunroof open, great music and a 35 year old car. Sometimes life is good!

Good perspective!

I have this 35 yr. old 2002, a 20 yr. old 911 (like new) and a 10 yr. old Boxster (like new). Each is different and excellent in it's own way.

But the '02 is the rattiest of the bunch, and yet, it thrills me everytime I get behind the wheel. I look forward to the day I'm finished with the sympathetic restoration because the car will just keep getting better and better along the way.

A major aid to improving the car has been the assistance offered by the great members here. I know I've said it before, but don't think I can thank you all enough!

Cheers!

Man I hear you, I am fortunate enough to get to enjoy that thrill every day. Hey, did you take the advise and "burp" your car? That may help you new cooling issue. I drive my 02 everyday even though I don't have to. I wake up every morning excited about getting to get into it and drive the 35 miles to work. I never ever get tired of it

I'm not as dumb as I look

Yeah, I burped the car, got better for about 40 miles then went back...I think I got it figured out...there is what seems to be fresh coolant on small amounts under the hood...I think at low speeds the radiator is fine...at higher speeds and higher pressures there are small leaks...pushing out a bit of coolant, but letting air into the system....thus the need to "reburp" it....So now I need to find out if its a hose thats not tight...or if indeed its the radiator itself. My bet is the radiator. I did open the hood and wash the engine bay once...used soap and water on the paint, then hosed it off...I sprayed the radiator from the inside and green liquid drained...like dried coolant was IN the coils...I thought maybe it had spilled and dried, but now it makes sense...slow leaks...gets hot and dries...not enough to make me worried, and not enough to leak on the garage floor...but enough to keep letting air into the system....especially when driven hard.
