PVGP

Mid-America, V@V & MidWest...not to mention upcoming Ofest. Wife wants non-car vacations for a change! We did have a great time last year, though. Highly recommended weekend--some extremely cool cars show up there.

I sure do hope we get a bunch of 02s showing up. Even though BMW isn't the marque of the year, this year, the Allegheny Chapter of BMWCCA is really going to show everyone a good time. The PVGP festivities actually started last weekend, with the Kick-Off Rally, which I couldn't attend because I was thrashin' on my wife's Passat :(.

I'm sure our event coordinator, Eric Zagrocki, will elaborate on the details later, but here's what I can tell you so far:

This weekend will include a German Car Corral at BeaveRun Race Course, where the more modern vintage racers will be running.

Next weekend will include a full slate of BMW club sponsored events, including Friday's driving tour over the back roads of the Laurel Highlands(which I'm putting the final touches on right now) to Penn Alps, in Grantsville, MD.

Saturday the 24th will see Pittsburgh's beautiful old Schenley Park hosting the PVGP Combined Car Shows (you name it, it'll probably be there, somewhere) along with vintage race practice & qualifying races. The BMW club will be hosting a catered lunch at their display/show area, which features some very good viewing spots from which to watch the racing. This will be a good time to hang out & kick tires and renew old friendships/meet new BMW people.

Sunday the 25th is Race Day and the BMW club will, again, be hosting a catered lunch, along with an "informal" comcours in the morning. Race group warm-up sessions will start around 8 or 9 am and run until 11 or so. Then, right around noon, the vintage races will begin and run the rest of the day.

My family and I have been enjoying this event from under one of Schenley Park's many big, old shade trees, with a bunch of our good friends, since the inagural PVGP, in 1984. It is an event never to be missed. Once you attend, you will find yourself compelled to return every year thereafter.
