Taken from the December 1982 Roundel

Interesting reading, complete with timed runs using Klaus' modified 72tii.

I first learned of this article from Bo Black, who sent me an old photocopy. I then found the original in a batch of Roundels (donated by fellow NCC'r Dave R.).

BMW didn't spend a bunch of money engineering these parts for folks to throw them away! Yes, it is a pain to change the filter elements and work inside the engine bay - but it works as designed.

I have a Lynx or Edelbrock filter on one of my cars (not a tii). The problem I found with it is the foam burns. My car was missing last week and backfired through the carb and it burned a hole right through the foam. I am taking it off.

I've always been wondering about the Alpina A3 filter housing:

and now for this filter when i saw it.

Don't they get the warmest air like that? Which we all know isn't good.

Maybe the results with and without it are real, but i'm sure the A4 airbox should be better, actually i don't see big performance in this one?

The BMW 2002 tii VIN 2719550 was manufactured on July 3rd, 1973 and delivered the same day to the BMW dealer Zeiss & Schwärzel in Mannheim. The original colour was Golf, paint code 070.

......back to the tii air cleaner debate :

so it looks like for the best reliability (read - no need to open

yer hood between oil changes to remove burnt foam), best protection

for your cylinder walls/rings, exceptible low noise levels,

sane cruising comfort = install a cold air hose to feed

your tii canister - you aint qualifing for pole position

at Daytona - and you aint going to miss 0._? seconds in acceleration.
