Castrol GT LMA, DOT 4 for the street

not silicone, not DOT 3...

Basically any DOT 4 real brake fluid will do.

Is it preference or is there a reason some use Castrol over ATE over Ford over any other brand?

Just curious as I will be heading in this direction soon, with my looooong term project.

Thanks

I think it's preference. ATE blue and gold are also a good choice,

because then when you do a flush, you can see that you've

gotten a complete flush.

I use the LMA in everything, and just never have problems.

But the Ford stuff is great, too- I tried it when I thought I had

fluid temperature problems.

I actually like the pedal feel of the LMA.

Agreed that Dot 5 (silicone) didn't work for me. Squigggy feeling,

never really got a good bleed- on an all- new system.

Changing it annually is the big deal in my book.

I've always used Dot 3, usually Prestone, for the 40 years I've been driving 2002s - never a problem. The more important thing is to replace it annually.

didn't mean to hijack your thread, but like I said your post is timely.

I agree big time about changing brake fluid yearly, but bleeding the brakes is not a favorite of mine. Thats why I've been looking into brake bleeders.

Does anyone use a brake bleeder using compressed air?

Does anyone use the brake bleeders you pump up?

I have been looking at them the last few days and wonder if the hand pump ones are any good? I have an air compressor and was going to find one that worked off that.

Again, sorry Doug for the hijack. Feel free to hijack any one of my posts, lol.

I use the bleeder where you pump the container and it pushes fluid through. I got from Bavauto and I love it. You add a quart of fluid in the reservoir, screw the cap on, pump it to about 15 psi and go around the car's bleeder screws. I usuall atyach a piece of clear hose to the nipple, open it, watch the fluid go through to a glass jar and then close.

The same cap works on all bimmers, and I use LMA on all of them.

ATE may have a slightly higher boiling point and the dye is a neat feature but I don't like the brake feel and the price is significantly more. (like 6 times) And considering how much brake fluid I go through, ATE is not justified for my needs.

I have the Motive Black Label pressure bleeder and its great. Its nice cause if you have a leak somewhere it'll help you find it in a hurry. It makes bleeding the brakes pretty painless and you don't need to bug your wife/child/friend to help you.
