Turn signal cuts power to radio...

So when I flip on the turn signal, my radio cuts off for a second then turns back on. Sometimes it doesn't happen until I turn OFF the blinker. I've checked the wiring to the CD player and it all seems good to me. I'm running constant power from the hazard switch and switched power from the lighter.

Does anyone have another idea?

i have the same issue on my old blaupunkt stereo and it is an internal problem to the radio, when there is fast power drop (flahsers) the sound gets interrupted for a moment. It happens randomly, not often.

maybe it is not the same as yours, i just thought i could share.

the fix is....some re-engineering of the power supply and/or the amp section in the radio. it is truly a flaw in the radio, du to age or something else.

The problem you're having is normal. This is so you don't get distracted while making a turn.

I don't have a solution to offer, but this made me laugh out loud. Electrical quirks in these cars have to make you smile (lest you go insane). I increase my radio's reception significantly with a quick tap on the horn after I start the car. It clearly has something to do with a ground, but it's easier to honk than trace the little bastard down.

lol...+1

the real problem is, theses old radios rely on the 12v supply to power up directly all the RF stages and amp stage, with no regulation.

Modern radio convert down to like 5v or 8v so even if the 12v fluctuates, there is no changes in reception characteristics since the voltage is table thus optimised all the time.

site, like the always hot terminal on the backside of the ignition switch. Only takes a minute to swap and see if it makes a difference.

I have old radios in both my cars (early 80s Pioneer and an 87 Alpine); both take their hot leads from the ignition switch and never give that problem, nor did their even older predecessors (OEM Blaupunkt and JC Whitney special--a Bowman I think)

thoses 80's alpines and pioneers had "advanced" engineering, i am talking about 70's radio ;)

That's where my power comes from. Just don't forget to turn the little bastard off when you get out of the car.

You may want to check your Alternator, I had a similar problem. Low voltage will make your electrical system do crazy things. I traced my problem to a broken ground on the Alt.( wire that runs to the block).

Well I'm glad I'm not alone. My radio/CD player is a newer (mid to early 90s) Blaupunkt and it never happened with either of the two that I had used previously. However, the problem didn't start immediately after installing the current unit.

It's just so frustrating because this is my daily driver, and I love me some music. So here I am singing and jammin away and then SILENCE. If my girlfriend is in the car, I look like a bigger fool.

I have a new alternator lying around so I'll keep digging and maybe end up just having to find yet another head unit.

Thanks guys.
