Hood Straps - Opinions?

I'm looking for some opinions... The hood latches on my Ti are non-functional and I'm looking at other options for securing the hood. I found these leather straps that may be an interesting look -

My other option is rubber latches -

My idea for the car is a vintage hot rod (Polaris silver, Ti/SA wheels, bucket seats, no front bumper, driving lights - very similar to car above)and the leather straps are interesting but I'm not sure if the go with the style of the car. I've never seen them on sedans before, just coupes and open top cars.

However, please be aware that without the hood latches, there is nothing keeping the hood from coming through the windshield in a front end event!

I've used the rubber holddowns on the A/X car for several years and have no complaints. I still have the original latching mechanism for the rear of the hood and may eliminate it at some point for weight savings. If I recall correctly I purchased them from a company that sold parts for Bread Trucks and Delivery Vans.
