I keep thinking that you could add some inline fanes like those to your ducting and get rid of the heater fan altogether. More space to get to the heater valve and no expensive replacement for the fan.

However, I'm removing the heater box completely and heretically going with this:

I ran across and old Roundel that showed a 2002 with customized forced air ducts running from the cowl to a center console faceplate.

IIRC, the owner cut (2) holes in the passenger side cowl next to the heater box, riveted some stubs and used flexible hose ran to a center console plate (like a modified Behr console) where they terminated in (2) round swiveling vent diffusers. The owner also rigged up linkages with flaps to shut off the outside air (and rain?) entering into the (2) stubs. The owner said the airflow was almost TOO much while driving on the highway.
