Oil Pump Spring

So I took off a bolt - think I've identified it as the oil pump (red arrow on the picture- not my engine, but that's the bolt)

The spring came out, along with a little oil, so I quickly put it back in. I'm fairly sure I put it back in the right order, and no parts were lost....

Just want to check that I haven't done something horribly wrong, and if there is anything I can check to make sure I haven't done anything wrong. Is there a special way to reinsert that spring assembly??

still a noob...

Matt

That is the oil pressure driven timing chain tensioner, not the oil pump. The oil pump is on the bottom of the engine in the oil pan.

If you put the piston in first, then the spring, then the cap, you did it in the correct order.

Good Luck,

Curiosity, heh?

It is the hydraulic dampener for the timing chain slack. There is a formed oil cup in the chain case that rocker oil drains into from a hole in the front of the head. To be a purist, you need to remove the valve cover and refill the cup with oil. The cycle the chain tensioner back and forth to fill the cavity in the dampener. You will need more oil in the cup as it is sucked into the dampener.

If you are not a purist, you can drive it and it will refill itself, but try to keep the revs down because the chain will flop some till the dampener gets it's hydraulic lock again.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.
