VIN 2763422 was probably manufactured February 1973.  Have you requested the manufacturing date and original color from BMW Archives?  Simply email Archives with the VIN:

I'm assuming you've already Googled the VIN.  Although it's not always working, the tii registry might have a listing.  Search through the glove compartment and if there are any original manuals, look carefully through them for names and address. Examine the door jambs and under the hood for service stickers.  Examine the radiator for metal service tags.  Any or all of these might give you a better sense of the car's history.

Does the engine number match the VIN?  It will if the engine is orginal.  What are the casting dates on the head, aluminum intake runners, steel rims (if still present), taillights?  All these, and more dated assemblies -- such as instrument clusters -- provide additional data as to the car's past.
