Oodles of noodles, and wiring harness, and more!
The project had been very slow going. A number of things, like so many others, tend to get in the way. But I try to at least stand in the garage and stare at it for a while, every day.
It just so happens that during one of these staring contests, I actually did a thing. Several things in fact!
When I'd removed the wiring harness from the car I did the right thing and labled everything. Or I thought I'd labled everything. Also, I'd forgotten that the harness came in two parts!
Going through it again I found some connectors that either i'd missed labeling or the labels had fallen off. Luckily enough, they seem to be connectors that are easily identifiable. As in the cluster of connections that to the the steering column. Then there are a couple that I can only guess at until I put the harness on a board and or lay it out in the car.
I'm hesitant to use the original harness though. For a couple reasons. And they are: 1. Betty had gremlins. On occasion, the lights would turn on, or off, all on their own. Also the horn would also turn on or off on its own. And stay on until the battery was disconnected. 2. I bought a Painless wire kit and like the idea of having all new copper running through the car.
But there there are all of those connectors and the things they connect into. I'm at a decision point.
While deciding, I started working on the pedel box and brake booster assembly.
The box was in okay shape. After degreasing and scraping the gasket off, the metal underneith was in good shape. A little corrosion but nothing poking holes.
I think after a good media blasting and powder coating, it'll look good as new. I've read through a couple threads where others have done this. So nothing new to report here, other than this is for an automatic. So, a few less parts to worry about! Once question though, seems all of the rebuild kits are for manuals. Looking at them though, it would seem I just need to use the parts I need and discard the rest. If so, good!
The brake booster it seems, needs to be junked and a new one purchased. These can't be rebuilt?
Also, I'm not finding a kit for the bushing or fasteners for this.
This'll also get powder coated in the refresh.
Lastly, I test fitted the intake manifold I'm going to use in the fuel injection setup. I bought this from a member here a while ago. Lost track of who that was. Sorry!
In any case, it came with a couple throttle bodies and several injectors. Not a 2 complete sets, but close.
These each represent a bit of work ahead of me. So, here we go! Diving in head first!
