The Rabbit Hole of AC

Been thinking of going down the AC route for some time. Bought the HobieDave bracket and have it sitting on the shelf.

As far as systems go - I'm looking towards the RestoMod AIr Bantam II Ultra Compact system ; https://www.restomodair.com/shopproducts/bantam-ii-ultra-compact-custom-air-conditioning-system/

As luck would have it, you can buy/rent a mock-up box to test fit. Just sent in my payment and once it arrives I'll have 30 days to see if it'll work. More to follow.

Cool! Hot? :D

That 17.5" dimension scares me. Keep us posted!

The 17.5" includes the blower.  Perhaps the blower can protrude over to the passenger foot well area like the Clardy's?  The one dimension not shown is the height.  There is not much vertical room in there because of the heater assembly and that the transmission tunnel slopes up toward the firewall.

Keep us posted and good luck.

Looking forward to how this turns out. I've been noodling on this since I saw the guys on Project Binky build a unit for their Mini -- if they can find space for one, we should have acres.

Here's a pic of the mock-up unit in my 02. I didn’t think there was enough clearance for the tubing.

But it maybe you can find a way to do it and share it. I’m still a few months from primer so I can hack away some metal lol.

Hmm. That looks like it'll foul the glove box

It will. You can push it over a bit to the driver’s side and it won’t. I was willing to not have a functioning glove box since I’m mounting the ECU in there.

Please keep us posted on your progress.  I just wish that aftermarket systems would have fresh air and not just recirc.

Just posted a new update. You can’t get it in and connect all the lines on the top. Time to refit the heater core and controls.
