Chrome & Brightwork

Vern's bumpers have been sent to the chrome plater's. All the anodized brightwork is in California at Speedway for stripping polishing and ceracoating.

Have been able to locate and buy the rear window latch covers from a FAQ member. The driver side rocker cover is fitted and will be welded soon. Currently repairing some lower A pillar perforated rust.

Sending in my application to display Vern at the BMW CCA Foundation after Mid America '02 Fest 2018, then driving him to Pittsburgh in July for O'Fest and the PVGP.

Andrew - I'm assuming you compared buying new trim with shipping and restoring the existing pieces.  What about the rain gutter trim?  That is a PITA to locate and ship.

After you described the KF belt coming apart, I bought a new one and will be installing it along with a new water pump and all new hoses in my car.  The KF belt and coolant hoses are almost 8 years old - the water pump about 10-12 years old.

Yes, compared, restoring the trim is a few hundred less than buying new. Bought new rain gutter trim from Blunt when it was available last year.

My KF belt was to have been replaced 20K miles ago when I had the cooling system refreshed, the one that snapped was black, so it was really old.

I'm pretty certain the KF belt that came as a spare with my car in 1982 was light brown-ish.

Perfect timing on your post.  I have all new belt line trim purchased from Rogers tii.  I actually got some pretty good deals from him on some of those that had slight blems on them, basically he told me he can't sell them unless they are perfect.  On some of these you would have to really be looking hard to find them....and I figure anyway on my car its a race car so it won't be long before they have battle scars.  I have new left and right pastic front grilles....however my center grille has taking a bit of a beating.  Best new deal I can find one of those is $250-260 range.  I emailed these pics to King of Trim....they estimated $500 so clearly that doesn't make sense.  Wondering if I should give speedway a try???  It doesn't take a lot of time to eat up $250 in labor (or materials).

The one I removed from my car in 2009 was light colored, as well as my spare belt I have carried around with me on trips. New one just received from Blunt is grayish-green (marked with BMW synchroflex).  One I removed from the 72 engine was similar.

Guess I haven't run across a black belt yet - it would kick my butt.

Is the belt line trim anodized or can it have dings removed and buffed?

My passenger door one is mangled, still hunting one, but the quarter panel ones I would like to remove large ding and move on.

Yes belt trim is anodized. Speedway has massaged a crushed section out of trim I sent them from my 3.0 CSi. Can't tell it was crushed.
