Ahem, can you hear me now?

I felt that my old fiamm horns lacked a certain umph. So this happened.  Still enough space for the charge pipe, but no real estate for an oil cooler.     I have all but given up on the air conditioning, so I expect that the dryer will evicted in favour of more cooling.   Cheers

Sensor Success and Fire Safety Fun.

So I am tidying things up in the trunk, and spent some time building out a bracket to hold my E85 sensor.  I wanted it out of the elements, so I decided to mount it in the trunk to keep it dry.  I got a PLA 3D printed mount and quickly realised that I needed to do a little better.    I built the bracket below, drilled and tapped it with my newly acquired metric tap set (amazon to the rescue). It turned out ok.  The tab that says fuel I will replace with a metal one.  It is sturdy now a

Floor needs some work & scope creep.

So I made progress on getting the seats mounted and plates in place ready for final welds to the floor.  At this point I was haunted by a little voice that said to remove all the sound proofing. I so to whoever here put that bug in my ear, I thank you.    I was planning to just leave the old stuff in, and panel over it, but I am a glutton for punishment.  I am glad that I did, I found a weird cut and hole in the side of the transmission tunnel.  Not sure what the heck happened.   Perha

Funk in my trunk.

So a quick update.  I relocated my battery in the trunk and mounted the maxi fuse.  So far so good,  this week I need to get a pair of front hubs tidied up for a fellow member, and if there is any time leftover, I will route the ground and positive cables to the front.   I had to wait until I could locate the passengers seat, as the sport seats need to be slung low to get the head clearance.     if I am able to run the cable and finish the seat brackets, I could have the car run on

Power... cut that out.

So a quick update.  I am working on getting the battery cutoff mounted.  I thought I might put it in the center of the dash, just to the right of the heater controls, but I would have to take the dash out to weld in the support properly.   I decided to put it in my center console.    I am going with a racing radio, so I don't really need the bells and whistles of a radio, because I only really listen to stuff off my phone. I will be playing my music to the Racing Radio, then out of tha

Well that sucked

So today I tackled a job that I was putting off for a while.  I welded tabs on the underside of the floor so that I could install my fuel line.   I  am going with regular AN line until I go with the turbo, then I will likely do a hard line and e85 safe flexible AN line.    For those who warned me that the crap on the bottom of the car makes you loopy as all get-go,  you weren't kidding.   I welded on two tabs (one each for feed and return).  I had an exhaust fan, an air filter, a regul

Rabbit Hole Rear end questions.

I moved this from general discussions.  This is a better place for it.    There are a bunch of questions that I am working through.  Any help would be appreciated.        So here is the first rat hole.  I just made arrangements with one of the members for an open E21 diff.  The reason I got it is I know sooner or later I will need it. He also has the 320 axels ( I think).  Do I get them?  I am not entirely sure what I am looking for.      From what I

The Vulcan has landed.

Well I was finally able to go and pick up a welder.  A total faff, but that is my fault.  I still have to clear out a ton of crap "AKA Facebook Marketplace items"  but I am optimistic that I can put my foot to the pedal in the next week or so.        Before I do anything else, I need to get the fenders cut and squared away.  I am hoping that I am able to teach myself how to Tig.  I have a couple of projects around the house, including welding a stout 3/8" thick stainles

The end of the beginning

Howdy there to the massive following of 6 people.   I hope you are well.    So the purge of the immense amount of crap is largely completed we are still trying to get rid of a washer/dryer and a couple bits of furniture and old tech.  This is good news because I am able to get the garage cleaned out and sorted.  It is taking a while to get things hung and plumbed, but I am happy with the results so far.     Here is a couple of pics to give you an idea of what I am working with.  The sh

Holly cow, what was I thinking. I have no time.

So I am back in the T. Hundreds of boxes later, and not even close to thinking about anything other than taking the car out once every three weeks for an hour or so.    The garage is a disaster, I have to rearrange everything. Move hoses, wiring etc.   I have a whole shop air filter to install.  If anybody is doing anything somewhat serious then think about one.  200-400(ish) will get you one on Amazon.  Some people put a bag of activated charcoal in the filter pockets to try

A quick pause for our safety sponsors.. Audi.

So after some soul searching I realised that in order to do this thing right (and safe) and not feel rushed I needed to get a daily.  I have been considering it for a while as I haul precious cargo often and drivers here often do not pay attention to red lights or stop signs.  I wanted to get something that would be safe, air conditioned and something my significant other could drive.   So when I was presented with an opportunity to get my friends 2004 Audi A4 i.8t I said yes.       My

Sensing something is different (this time).

Good afternoon everyone.    Welcome to phase II.     Just to make sure that everyone is up to speed.  I purchased a basket case turbo setup from a fellow member.  After I sorted out everything, including a somewhat surprising turbo rebuild, I am just about to start with the first steps to getting the turbo installed.    The hard part for me is (besides getting the time) is that I need to make sure that the result is safe and reliable.  There are some things that BMW
