About this blog

Starting a rebuild of a ratty 76 for fun and track days. Just put it into the garage and trying to figure out where to begin. The car is rough, I do not intend for it to be back in stock condition, I want a mechanically sound car that I can take for sunday drives and track days. The interior is gutted, the body was painted with a spray can and the rockers and shock towers have some questionable repairs. It runs and drives but I have not driven it further then onto and off my trailer. Let the fun begin!!

Day 1-  bought this car about a year ago, just getting around to pulling it into the garage. the flares, rear lip and front spoiler are off and will be for sale, I don't anticipate wheels wide enough to justify the flares and I want a bare clean look.

Here are the results after cleaning up all the rear end pieces. HF purple air gun and some industrial primer/enamel.

Front End Tear Down

Want to add some photos here of front end before and rear almost after. Dreaded ball joint removal. What a luxury working on this stuff out of the car, much preferred over laying on my back.

Fresh Motor

Rebuilt motor by Eric Kerman, tii block, E12 head, teflon bearings, Schrick 292, port matched intakes. Gorgeous!!  Time to add the DCOE's, 123 dizzy, header etc.  Flywheel to the machine shop, clutch and once that's all together and the front subframe is all together I can marry them and hurry up with the body.

CV Re Boot

Took the CV joints apart, cleaned the old grease out of them, black nast, most of it watery liquid. This is posted elsewhere but worth repeating, this is an excellent tutorial for doing this job. Some pics of the CV and a craigslist score from earlier this week, an old compressor, c-clamps and two pullers, the one pictured is massive.

Bushings Out

Rear end bushings removed. Trailing arm done with threaded rod, washers and scrap tubing. Diff mount was done with hack saw and punch. Ready to pull the hub and prep for paint and rebuild.  Going to try Klean Strip Prep and Etch to prepare for paint, phosphoric acid, Home Depot $15 a jug.
