My favorite car this year is Ben Younce's Chamonix 68 with Cosmic alloys. Ben amazingly fixed his car from a massive rear-end accident several years ago. I would love to have my 69 end up this nice.

SoCalVintage 2017 - Pictures

A huge thank you to John, Jeff, and all the volunteers (Pierre, etc.) that make this show possible.  We are very grateful for your efforts.  This year's show was one of, if not, the best yet.  The weather was perfect, the variety of cars was more apparent than ever before.  The following pictures are FAR from an accurate representation of scale of the show,  hopefully you enjoy them nonetheless.
Got up early and picked up my drive for the event, a slick little E28 535i.

Met up with 2man from R3V, grabbed some coffee, and headed up the 405.
Very cool to see the variety this year.  

Jeff Caplan of Odometer Gears brought out his recently near-finished 6-year-project E28 (sporting throttle bodies, a healthy turbo, mil-spec wiring and so much more).
Ireland Engineering was out en force.  Ken from VintageBMWRacing brought out an M10 on an engine dyno, pretty fun to see it fire up right there.
Matt Rhose and his crew from Ronin Autowerks brought out a few of their 2002 racers and restomods.

Jack Fahuna brought this neat M20'02.  Digging that header setup... ALOT

Finally got to see Tony's new version of his M20'02 beast.  
I talked quite a bit, and as a result didn't get many pictures during the peak hours of the show.  However, being around at the end afforded some really fun picture options.

Quick excuse to get my ride for the day in here.  It drove great, a sweet-heart of an E28.

There were quite a few interesting non-bmw cars worth mentioning as well.

Very commendable that Mike, Emily, and Andrew booked it back from SEMA in time to come out with the E28 Parts Car with its new livery. 

Jesus found this hood neglected in a yard a couple years back and had it hiding in his garage.  On Thursday he decided this was the year, and rocked it on his Alpina E12.  Her name is Lola.

If you have not had a chance to run the Shamrock Rally, you are missing out. A short, 100 to 200 mile, run through back roads of East Bay or South Bay is always scheduled for the Saturday of the St. Patrick's Day. This seems to fall on the third Saturday of the month. For second straight year, March Neue Klasse und Kaffee has been the starting point for Shamrock Rally. 
The gathering usually brings out all sorts of vintage cars. Though the rain scared a few people away, we still had around 30 cars for morning coffee and the drive. In addition to the traditional Neue Klasse BMWs, we had a pair Triumphs, a Mini, a Volvo, several E30 BMWs, and an Alfa that belongs to the Rally Master @SteveJ


We gathered at a new location this month, States Coffee in Martinez, CA. Availability of two large lots helped us stay together for some fun conversation. The shop owner, @hollowridge, was generous enough to supply us with caffeine. Coffee was amazing and well needed for some of us who only got 4 hours of sleep and were up at 5:30 in the morning.


The drive this year took us mostly through Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. The roads are fun and I feel like @SteveJ knows all of them.  A few drops have hit the windshield, but rain mostly stayed away.  You could look into the distance and see dark clouds and wet roads, but the cars did not really get wet until we were all done with the drive and were enjoying lunch with the great company.

Event Recap:
Saturday everyone meet up at the coffee meeting point. There was a little concern as there was a wild fire in El Dorado that was near the route we were going. Thankfully it was well west of the roads we were traveling so all we had was little smoke.
The first part of the drive was good. We hit a little traffic as expected but after a short way the road opened up. We made great time and picked up one member of the group in Plymouth as they lived in that area. First stop and restroom break was Merkleeville.

After Merkleeville we headed over the range to 395 and Mono Lake for lunch. The weather was clear and sunny with just a few wisps of clouds.

Before leaving Mono Lake Visitor center we made a group call to see if we stop and see the Tuffa Rocks. The group said yes and we made a slight plan change to go see the rocks by the lake. We almost had an incident there which you might see in the photos. A Honda parked between two trip members and all of us were wondering what they were thinking. Thankfully no damage to anyone's doors even though you wonder how they got out.

After Mono Lake we headed to the Devils post pile to see the rock formations there before calling it a day. These rock formation only are seen in a few places around the world so it is well worth the short hike.

Sunday Recap
Today was all about making it to Yosemite. The group first made a detour to June Lake which was very calm and serine. Made for some great shots and a fun little detour before hitting the busy park.

After the lake stop we hit the park. We made stops to see the usual big items before making our way to Yosemite Village for lunch.

This trip of course had a lot more going on and this recap just touches the surface of what we did. While it was a weekend run we did A LOT. We hope to do this run again but make it a three day run so we have more time to see things.

I had been excited for this weekend ever since last years historics. I knew it was going to be big, but I had no idea it was going to be this big. My weekend began at 5:00 Friday morning, after a week of late nights drilling holes, mounting lights, and mainly scrubbing and vacuuming. My dad and I met up with 3 more 02s and a beautiful /6 cafe racer. We headed down 17 towards Highway 1, with some of our cars adding to the thick haze of fog coming off the ocean. Just before we got off at Hwy 68 we were passed by an e30 and then an e34 M5 Touring, a car I never seen before, I squealed inside a bit. “It’s gonna be a good day” I thought to myself. No one in our group had been to our first stop Legends of the Autobahn before and we got lost, which lead us to seeing a 3.0 CSL batmobile. We finally got to legends and I park my touring with the other 2002s, and right away I’m asked what it is. I went into this weekend thinking e30 M3s, and 3.0s were rare, but by the end of Friday they honestly had become commonplace. Which was fine, Legends offered up plenty of other beautiful cars for me to ogle. Elvis Presley's’ 507, a 700 coupe which had an air cooled motorcycle motor in it, a 1934 309, and my favorites, an e30 touring and an M1. When a 3 cylinder DKW 3=6 started up, it drew a crowd, he man that owned it also has a right hand drive Colorado Touring he brought to the Brisbane 02 show. Down the hill from the main show was the Motorrad and performance section. A few Z1s, quite a few Z8s, and even more M3s. We came across a whole lot of different older Alpinas, pretty sure at least one of every model made. The motorcycles were a sight to see, I believe an r32, BMWs first motorcycle, and a few insanely clean /5 and /6s, including a gold twin turbo, that the owners unfortunately would not start up.

Once Legends ended we went to a BBQ to revel for the evening with other BMW enthusiast. A big shout out and thank you to Doug for hosting. Late in the evening we returned to our campsite above turn 10 at Laguna Seca. In the campsite we had an 1800 4 door, an e30 325ix, an e36 M3 LTW, 4 2002s, and 3 Tourings, and a big 2002 FAQ banner on the fence.Needless to say, our site was packed, and we constantly had people stopping and asking us about our cars. I’ve seen posts about how much love there is in the 02 community, and I’ve always seen that in our group. I have witnessed this first hand with building my own car which was a year of non-stop fun and great times, or helping Coastalcrush get his crusty Colorado 1600 on the road before the Brisbane show.

Saturday morning our group drove our cars down to the BMW corral and had cars and coffee on the back of Dr Suave! We watched the morning races, my favorite being the 1973 to 1984 FIA, IMSA GT, GTX, AAGT, and GTU cup, just because of the amount of 3.0s and M1s. After that we got ready for the BMW parade lap, where I got to ride in Steve's all stock automatic touring. He showed the three of us all the proper racing lines to take around the track, which was really informative and interesting. When we came back in (after the parade lap) my dad and I spent a while walking around the paddock, where we saw Canepas crew readying his cars. We met an older gentleman with a Model T racecar and watched him oil up and prime the fuel pump on his race car.

As we headed towards the main BMW tent I stopped and drooled over the silver M1 procar that had been out just eating up the track. The car had originally raced in Japan, hence the Japanese lettering all over, then was unseen for 25 years, until it was bought and restored to its original condition, and now races around the world in historic races. The BMW tent was impressive. It had all the race cars on the ground, you could get right up and stick your head in them, and then there were a few show cars behind glass barriers. A gorgeous 2002 turbo sat in front of the 2002 Homage car (the homage car brought up a bit of a debate in our group). At the other end sat 2 art cars, an M3 GT2 sat behind the well known number 93 3.0 CSL art car that raced in Le Mans in 1975, you could tell it was a special car with just one glance.

By now it was time for the next 1973-84 race, so we went to turn 5 where we could get a good look at the cars as they came into the turn. It was quite the sight to see as Canepa passed people on that bit of straight away like they were standing still, the man knows how to drive. Later we walked through the shop tents and watched people test drive Land Rovers on their test course, some people really beat on them. We headed back up to the campsite, where the lighting got just right for a photoshoot (a true golden hour), which as we all know, 2002s are very photogenic. That night we sat around our fire pit and talked about the day and our cars until it got too cold and foggy to stay up
Sunday morning we packed up our cars with our camping gear, throwing as much as I could on the roof rack of the touring. Again we brought our cars down to the turn 5 corral and talked with passersby for a bit until the 1963-73 FIA race, when we all pressed ourselves to the fence and stared in awe as 3 2002s raced around, one being an Alpina TI. We found out there were spots left for the day’s parade lap, and we quickly registered a few of our cars. This was by far my favorite part of the whole weekend. When they say you can't see a thing coming over the corkscrew, they mean you really can't see anything. But there is nothing like coming over it, downshifting to 2nd, and flooring it out. I had a smile on for the whole lap, but that part made me laugh with pure joy. A track day is now very much in order! With our cars packed, my dad and I started our drive back home, sunburned, tired, and smiling from an event filled weekend.

This was a fantastic day.  I was not able to make it to the show last year and missed the whole weekend. This year I could only do Friday Show and we tried to make the best of it.
After heaving a crazy week, I was able to find a little time to get the car ready the night before. A nice wash and vacuum, oil check (none needed) and a carb tune and unlike most other shows, i did not not to do anything else. As I received several emails to remind me to not get there before 8am I Left Redwood City at 6:15 am and was entering the Golf Course at 8.  To my surprise there was very little traffic and i was one of the last 2002s to enter field. the FAQ had a great representation. I did not count the cars, but there were more FAQ members with their cars then any other model.  
Unlike the days that at the booth, this time I got to hang out with some old friends, met some new one and got reintroduced to some I have met before. (sorry, i am horrible with names). We missed the Spaten tent from previous years. Not sure what they were thinking. 
The highlight of the day was the look on @norm and @RacingAli faces as we sang Happy Birthday to them while they were getting their respective trophies at the podium.

The event officially kicked off with the union of participants for the Denver Caravan. Over 10 cars joined together to begin the driving aspect referenced in the event name. From the initial group, it seemed a bit more like a car show than a gathering with how many people showed up! Sooner than later, the caravan would depart to stay on schedule and meet up with the others.

The group drove south along the highway enjoying the cars and taking photos of the chain of bavarian art in motion. It was early Friday morning and traffic was good with minimal construction along the main Colorado corridor of Interstate-25. .

The caravan cruised south about 50 miles to the first stop along the journey; The World Arena in Colorado Springs. An additional six or so cars joined in on the caravan at this point. With over 15 BMW’s in the parking lot, even a bystanding BMW owner stopped in to see what the gathering was all about. Although he wasn’t convinced to join in, it was nice to see him stop by.

After everybody greeted each other and made bathroom “pit-stops,” the drivers reluctantly pulled away from their conversations to head out on the open road. Getting everybody through the initial stoplights was a worry, but conveniently, the event timing of the stop lights allowed the group to leave as one long BMW caravan.

This made the perfect opportunity for rolling shots- two lane empty roads with over 15 BMW’s strong! It was a good thing there were a few passengers to take some photos.

As the rolling caravan continued towards Canyon City, what a sight it was traveling along Highway 50! Everything from a unique 2000 Touring from the early 70′s to a (relatively) new E92 M3 cruised through the desert.

At one point the group did get separated when traveling through Canon City, Colorado; but after pulling off on the side of the road it was possible to regroup. From here the road started to tighten up a bit and you can see the cars were starting to make it into the canyon that the city was named for.

Although the caravan was mostly older BMW’s, they were a blast when travelling through the canyon. The pace definitely quickened with twisting roads indicated by the yellow warning road signs. Winding along “Texas Creek” is never as much fun as when you are tearing up the corners of a canyon road with mirror full of BMW kidney grille’s. At this point, the the iconic shape was telling you that your pace really wasn’t quick enough.

It was almost a full hour through the canyon, but oh how time flies when you are having fun! I dare say that the enjoyable curvy section of road left the drivers pleasantly surprised what their machines could do when pushed. The road slowly started to straighten out; simply meandering with the river rather than cutting back and forth along it. At this point what can be described as a “driver’s high” had occurred and after the exciting jaunt of that previous section of road, it was reasonable now to simply amble along the remaining section of road and enjoy the natural beauty of this mountainous region of land. A myriad of houses, local businesses, and livestock grazing in the visible pastures only added to the effect.

Another short while up the road the caravan made a stop in Salida, Colorado. This was the main stop along the journey with a good location to fill up with gas and grab a bite to eat, whether it be fast food or packed lunches. A few folks stopped for a longer lunch break and decided to pass on joining the caravan for the entire journey- again, entirely OK.

Alas, the caravan continued! The San Luis Mountains were a breathtaking sight as we peaked over Poncha Pass and viewed the eastern spine of mountains that created The Great Sand Dunes.

From here the road opened up and a good 45 minutes of cruising through what used be an ancient lake bed expanse was still interesting to drive through. Now this area is simply a large area of desert with mountains straddling three sides of the epicenter.

As the famous Wolf Creek Pass approached, the caravan encountered some rain. This made for beautiful scenery in an already exciting caravan drive. Of course the rain stopped, and it was possible to enjoy the road that much more with safer conditions. One driver’s car was so happy cruising in these roads, it even decided to drive itself!

Driving up the pass got quicker and quicker once a second lane opened up. Even though the altitude was rising towards 11,000 feet, the BMW’s pressed on just like the feet of each of the drivers. The road was so enjoyable, it was tough to take a break to get photos of the moment!

This photo summarizes Drive 4 Corners Perfectly: We have that Desire to be Driven matched with the friendship and camaraderie of the two drivers who are chatting on the side of the road.

Once to the top of the pass, it was an abrupt change to 7% grade downhill. The shoulder was littered with signs telling truckers to stay in lower gear to prevent gaining speed. Wolf Creek pass is infamous because of a C.W. McCall song about driving the treacherous pass in his tractor-trailer. The task of slowing down and taking the corners wasn’t so daunting for our group of BMW’s, but it was still necessary to heed the warnings and keep our wits.

Within 20 miles of Pagosa Springs, the road flattened out and there were more photo opportunities such as this one while driving along Highway 160.

Arriving at the Quality Resort of Pagosa Springs was a treat as there were already over dozen BMW’s in the main parking lot. Now was a good time to unload the car and get ready to grab a beer from the restaurant lounge and bar area of the hotel.

Check-in, dinner, drinks, and new friends were a common theme of Friday night. A few local folks traveled in 60 miles for the evening to be apart of the festivities. Many were able to wash their vehicles in the carwash station and clean off the road grime and bugs that typically come with a long drive.
The friendly and laid back atmosphere meant it was no problem for families to participate in the evening. The common theme of all this was that the participants were here to share a passion common among everyone. The new acquaintances were a welcome sight after the day(s) of travel into Pagosa Springs. After all, meeting new people is part of the appeal of the Drive 4 Corners BMW Meet. Of course, a majority of people visited in the parking lot admiring all of the BMW’s in sight.

The eating area was cozy and inviting. In the mornings, this area doubled as a continental breakfast and the windows opened up to the San Luis Mountain Range.

The Quality Resort had gone through some major renovations since the 2012 meet. Part of this included the additional of an in-house restaurant. The bar area, lounge, and entire kitchen were renovated. This was a great area to relax with a drink and meet some of the other BMW enthusiasts who had already arrived. Although the restaurant was more than overwhelmed with our mass of people Friday night, we give them credit for sticking with it and expect they will be better prepared a year from now. Additionally, the hotel rooms are scheduled to be renovated in September 2013 and this boost will make the Quality Resort infinitely more attractive to those who felt the rooms weren’t quite up to par.

It was a treat to see participants had driven from Maryland, California, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas to join the event. The cool summer air was refreshing even if it had a slight chill as the sun went down.

The broad variety of cars complemented the evening as there were many new things to learn about the history of BMW- including the rare Z1 where the doors slide down out of view! Klove Photography was able to capture some great images from the parking lot that evening.

Some participants were chatting well into the night about their cars and other various stories. This made for some unique photo opportunities such as this one which was taken with a long exposure and a cell phone walked around the perimeter of the subject.
The 2013 Drive 4 Corners Decal was a hot commodity. This gentleman was quick
to get his placed perfectly on his E34 5 series so it would be ready for the Saturday photoshoot.

A few participants got up early Saturday and were able to complete one of the Scavenger Hunt item: get a photo of their car with a hot air balloon in the background. Quite the amount of local attractions in Pagosa Springs!

It was a good opportunity for photos since the GroupDdrive didn’t start until 9:30am. Here’s an image of some of the Z3′s that showed up in full force.

After a short drivers meeting to remind all the participants to be safe and have an enjoyable drive up the pass with no issues, small groups of BMW’s departed as fast as the stop light would let them. The faces of some of the locals as so many BMW’s creeped through downtown at 25mph were priceless!

towards Wolf Creek pass is a distinct experience like no other road. The relaxing scenic route disguises what enjoyable curves lie ahead. The destination is not visible from the bottom, and neither is the quality of curves that will be encountered. Slowly the road begins to take an upward slope, but it isn’t until the road opens to a second lane that exciting things began. A single curve at the base of Treasure Falls transforms the route into a winding wonderland of pleasure. A sunny Saturday morning is the perfect condition to open up the cars a bit. Even a large vehicle like this euro 7 series will handle the turns with balance.

Here is a photo of a rare 2000 Touring in Inka Orange. You likely won’t be seeing one of these anytime soon; especially not on such beautiful terrain!

One of the photographers decided it would be a good idea to snap some photos from the most famous corners along the route- Dead Man’s Curve. This scenic stop is a breathtaking view that seems like it was just pulled from the pages of a magazine! The natural beauty of the area is encompassed in the photo below.

Additionally, some great action images were taken from this location!

The BMW X5 SAV was no slouch racing around this curve, either.

It was quite the sight as over 50 BMW’s waited anxiously in line to view the scenic overlook of Wolf Creek Pass Ski Area. Getting parked perfectly was important so that the images would turn out great!

It sure was a neat view with all of the BMW’s parked at the base lot of the ski area. What a great location for a photo opportunity; overlooking the runs of Wolf Creek Ski Area on one side, and then the rocky mountains on the other. The best part about all of this was that participants were able to enjoy this moment with the machines that brought them all there. It was obvious the amount of passion of this group. Many people were busy taking photos, exploring nooks and crannies of cars, and telling stories with new friends. It was a good time for BMW enthusiasts.

After the run up the pass, other activities were encouraged before heading back to the hotel. Some of the stops made available were the Alberta Reservoir, Lobo Overlook, Dead Man’s Curve (pictured above), and Treasure Falls. All were prime locations to stop for a short while, and all were accessible quite easily by car! Definitely something worthwhile to see. These side excursions were an added bonus on the drive and were right along the route back to town.

There were not as many group caravans down the mountain as up. However, this didn’t mean the pictures were any worse. Here’s a beautiful grey market 745i — an executive saloon from 1984 equipped with headlight washers, a gasoline heater, and a factory turbocharger pumping out almost 250 horsepower.

Back at the hotel was the main event BBQ with food, raffle prizes, and another incredible view. It was the perfect opportunity to take a close look at some of the cars and chat with the owners while getting a bite to eat.

There were plenty of modified BMW’s there, along with some factory stock examples. This 3 series was heavily modified to both look and act the part.

Those who were able to pull away from the cars for a brief moment were in awe of the view to the north of the hotel.

A neat driving simulator was even set up! You drive any BMW ranging from a 3.0CSL to a 1980 M1, to the modern F10 M5.

This was a neat giveaway item from the raffle. The featured car was the BMW 6 series with the design placed on the front of the 2013 tshirt, so it is only appropriate there was a miniature glass 635CSi paperweight. Although not all participants were at the BBQ, there are rumors that a revamped time and organizational schedule will improve the BBQ timeline for 2014.

The raffle was a great success. As participants only had to spare a few bucks for raffle tickets, everybody who was present walked away with something! Santa Fe BMW Supplied plenty of ‘swag’ and people were trilled with some of the grand prizes they came away with. Their extraordinary support matched with their collaboration with the event team allowed for the perfect mix of enthusiasm at the event.

The awards ceremony was highlighted by the Over the Hill Award, Fan Favorite, and the Furthest Traveled– a whopping 1800+ miles from Maryland in a new 335d. The other winners included the 1970 2000 Touring from Colorado and the 1977 530i from New Mexico.

Sunday was the main day for travelers to disperse, however those who were able to plan accordingly had a few options. One of the most popular stops was “The Springs.” The event team was able to secure a great discount for participants of Drive 4 Corners. It was a nice place to soak and admire the beauty of the San Juan River which backstops right next to the resort. If you were feeling adventurous, you could hop in the river, although it was quite cold!

Overall, Drive 4 Corners 2013 was a great success. The number of participating cars more than doubled even with 10 room cancellations the week of. Just over 50 cars made it to the group photoshoot; the few that not were able to make it, were able to enjoy their own activity at their leisure. Everybody who attended the raffle was able to walk away with a prize, and everybody who stopped in on the awards ceremony was able to get a free tshirt courtesy of Odometer Gears. A late night feedback session Saturday night gave constructive criticism for how to make next years event even better than the current. Additionally, the Quality Resort is scheduled to begin major renovations in early September and will continue to be the location of the best BMW gathering in the Rocky Mountain Region. With the support of volunteers, more activities will make Drive 4 Corners 2014 an event not to miss! Race 1 won overall by original Mini Cooper S 1300 who was a stomping 20sec a lap quicker than 02 on a average 1min lap followed by Austin Healey frogeyed sprite who was super commited.

The old mk2 Jag 3 wheeling around outside was the hero move of the day, at several points around the track was on 2 wheels giving it everything against the more modern Jags

With the steep downhill bend the white jag car almost lost it went sideways down the hill just just saved it, whilst happening next car coming around the corner had no chance went flying T boned through the drivers side window, later i heard both were ok.

This event is so close to my house that I feel bad every time i miss it. I miss it a lot. Friday night activities or weekend plans usually keep me away from Portola Valley, CA. Not this time.  I am missing a lot of cars that showed up as I did not star taking photos until later part of the morning. This was mostly due to great turn out from the BMW 2002 FAQ club.

Conversation seems to take over what should be an "adult show and tell"

I thought I'd contribute a short report and a collection of photos we took around OFest 2014 for the FAQ.
For FAQers that aren't BMWCCA members -- Oktoberfest is the annual 'whole-club gathering' event for Club members, held at rotating locations around the USA each year during summer/fall. It's a full week of fun activities celebrating the marque. Last year it was held in California, alongside the famous Monterey & Pebble Beach automotive events. This year it finally returned to Colorado, and it was more of a smaller, social OFest. Many FAQers might remember the last time Colorado was host to the event, in 2002 in Keystone CO, when a massive number of 2002s showed - since our 02 was honored as the 'marque' BMW model that year.
My week started with a great drive up to Vail on Father's day, Sunday afternoon. The ol' 02 was driving nicely (though working a bit into the lower gears to ascend the steeper hills at altitude 8-10K+) and we had some awesome cooler sunny weather. My wife and I had a great dinner at one of my favorite haunts in Vail - La Tour - and we enjoyed a nice relaxing afternoon, and celebrated late into the evening in Vail Village. We love Vail - getting out there several times each year, to hit the incredible slopes during ski season, and to enjoy the mountain fishing, hiking & biking in the summers.
On Monday, Ofest officially started - but my vacation plans had evolved to enjoy the day flyfishing on the Gore Creek in East Vail (Gold Medal waters), versus heading to any of the main OFest activities. I drove up to Beaver Creek in the afternoon to check-in at Registration and attend the First-Timers meeting. I then headed back to Vail and caught a little skateboarding action before sunset in Lionshead to make a great ending to a fun outdoor day.

Tuesday at OFest was Concours day -- and I'd entered as a 'display-only' car, given my 02 is the anti-concours archetype. (Hey, my dash is original!) :-p
The OFest Concours event had over 100 cars assembled on the 18th hole of the Beaver Creek Golf Course (18 judged cars, a recent OFest 'low' -- plus 85+ Display-only participants, many of which could/should be valid Concours cars) for the event. I'd have to say it was way-cool to drive the 02 up the golf-cart path, past the i8, winding along slowly in 1st/2nd gear past several hilly terrain fairways, to eventually drive up out and onto the 18th hole approach to park the car for the day. When I arrived, everyone was finishing up their last minute detailing, and checking out and chatting up the other participants - it was a really friendly atmosphere. The Club had some great tents set up for food/refreshments, and walking the cars, talking to owners, and taking pics was a sweet way to enjoy the afternoon.

There were many splendid cars on show out at the OFest Concours, including quite a few rare gems. The Judged category was very competitive with some astonishingly clean and original cars - including three 02s: Aaron's sweet Chamonix 2002 Turbo, Mike's amazing 2002tii Lux, and a super 1600 cabriolet. The following is but a brief selection, particularly highlighting some of the other 02s at the event. Per my unofficial count, I believe our favorite 02 Series was actually the largest represented model at the 2014 Concours (!) with at least 11 in show. Not bad for a model last produced 38 years ago. Way to reprazent!
Sadly, I thought we got solo pics of all the 02s, but looking at the camera roll and our phones, I can see now that we missed a few (very sorry folks!).

On Wednesday, the BMWCCA held a great scenic drive and a nice catered barbeque lunch to/at the Kessler Canyon Ranch approx. two hours away from Beaver Creek. There was a challenging TSD Rally to get there, as well as an independent drive for the non-rallyists. Kessler Canyon is a luxury resort out on the rural western slopes of Colorado, north of Grand Junction.
After the Kessler Canyon lunch, there was a casual Show-n-Shine event labelled "Bimmers on Broadway" on the way home in the town of Eagle, CO (approx 25 west of BC). The Club even provided directions to 2 available car washes along the drive route back for those looking to get shiny again.
I didn't go to Kessler, instead doing some hiking and fun solo mountain driving that morning, so I ended up heading on into Eagle the backway that afternoon.

Quite a good number of cars made it out to Eagle -- filling up 2+ blocks on both sides of the street (which they closed for regular traffic). It made for a fun, leisurely stroll-about social -- meeting folks and talking cars and driving in Colorado. There were quite a number of locals who also came out to check out the cars. Broadway in Eagle is pretty laid back, and not much was open there that afternoon to hang out at or frequent while the street car show was going on. The infamous local 'Brush Creek Saloon', and the Bonfire Brewing micro-distillery weren't poor options, though. ;-) The Bonfire had an awesome Stout and Double IPA on tap - mmmm. I only took my camera out late in the day, after most cars had left, but here's a couple of shots from the Bimmers on Broadway event.

A late arrival to Bimmers on Broadway, but obviously the highlight of the event, was the arrival of the new BMW i8. I'd seen the i8 parked by itself out on the 16th green at the Concours, but this gave us all a chance to check it out up-close and personal. It's simply an awesome (and rare/$$$) ride. A work of art, really. It was a thrill to be able to sit inside it and experience the tech they've put in there. 8-)

For me, sadly, OFest 2014 ended on Thursday, - when I had to high-tail it back to Denver. Ofest continued on with Autocross and other activities on into a final Friday evening gala. OFest was nice to see and participate in, in my own small way. I met lots of friendly BMW (and 02!) car enthusiasts. I usually can't make it to many 2002 or Bimmer Events - so being able to see and check out a tiny bit of this annual BMW fanatics annual ritual was pretty cool.
You should all consider attending a BMWCCA Ofest event with your 2002 sometime - it's a great time. Or even just visiting this fine state to sample some of it's excellent driving roads and scenery. I hope this field report gives you a small taste.

(Postscript: I ended up catching a bad cold upon getting back from OFest, and sadly I couldn't even make it out to the Rocky Mountain FAQ 02ers Meet at Red Rocks today (6/22) that we'd been organizing for the last month or so. Argh, I'm so bummed…)

Bimmerfest 2015 - Review and photos by Andrew @ Ireland Engineering
So this year Bimmerfest was out in Fontana at the AutoClubSpeedway. This represented quite a risky departure from the brown grass of the Rosebowl. I think it paid off though. The event was a more enthusiast-centric event compared to former years. In the past the vendors rows were seen as an island among a sea of cars. All arriving enthusiasts were forcibly drawn to like a fly to one of those buzzy things on the porch. The setup at ACS today was very different.

As you drove into the event you couldn’t initially see any vendors, all you saw were rows and rows of bimmerheads of all shapes and sizes. Once you parked (I drove in with my squeaky Honda Civic, which really turned some heads with it’s Asian simplicity and timeless mid-nineties styling) you hopped out and were greeted not with music blasting, but rather with the sounds of Bavarian-built engines racing around.

You see, the organizers were prescient enough to have a track day setup by SpeedVentures” to occur simultaneously with the show. I think this changed the dynamic of the show for the better. The track consisted of a blast along the roval and then dove in around the infield, the whole track conveniently surrounded the Bimmerfest show else like a warm growling bear hug. Another big plus was that under this layout one could go visit the Vendor Area AND the open race paddocks.

It was simply a sea of bimmers. The organizers were kind enough to have setup the Heritage Corral for all the vintage goodness that showed up (thanks to Tony for helping with that). It was great to talk with a bunch of you guys!

THE VENDER AREA-------------------------------------------------
The vendor area had a nice mix of genuinely neat stuff along with the obscene and sloppy. I mean I wondered if some of those guys were really just trying to be parodies of themselves!
Good to see the #25 CSL out!

It was good to see the Clarion Build’s 2002 bring out a booth. They had a neat setup with the restored and non-restored 2002's in a BEFORE & AFTER setup. It will be interesting to see what the car sells for (they will be headed to Arizona to auction off the car for charity).

Ayed's (King's Autobody) E46 M3 GTR Clone caught a crowd. It was between the Motorsport Hardware booth and the Hard Motorsports booth. The Hard Motorsports guys hauled their stuff down all the way from Spokane, WA. They certainly know their way around some of the older stuff as well though.

Hiding behind a booth was a car I never thought I'd see again. This is the 2002 that was featured in SuperStreet Magazine 8 years ago ( http://www.superstreetonline.com/features/eurp-0709-1969-bmw-2002/ ). It was subsequently bought and overhauled by Dallas Raines the weatherman (who I did NOT recognize until someone pointed it out afterwards).

Neat work on his custom M20 throttle body.

The Toyo car built by Le (02GarageWerks) was over next to the ToyoTires truck. He really went all out on the show touches. My favorite was the picnic basket in the trunk.

The M10 engine all done up shiny. Liked the custom velocity stacks and the IE intake manifold.

Norm's ubiquitous 2002 with IE box flares. Congrats on your second place trophy Norm! The car looks much better right side up.

E28 was certainly “stanced” enough, but with the 1JZ engine and HRE's I kinda liked it.

This was probably my favorite “modern” car at the show.

This was the loudest “look at me” car at the show that typified a lot of the show cars found in the wheel booths.

Neat to take a look at Mike Essa's now-retired E46 Formula-D drift car. (here's a good write up from the guys at Moto-IQ on the car ( http://www.motoiq.com/MagazineArticles/ID/2997/Sneak-Peek-Mike-Essa-and-GSR-Autosports-E46-Build.aspx )

I talked with Vorsteiner about their new M4 widebody, Peter said that the inspiration on the rear was taken from the M3 box flares. He just picked up a nice E30M3 as well.

There were plenty of models around, some more entertaining than others.

Really cool to see an E30 running the old BBS kit.

The paddock was filled with a lot of different cars, fortunately most of which were bimmers.

The view from the VIP boxes (which were open to everyone). With the food trucks nearby, one could have conceivably grabbed a plate of shrimp tacos and come up here to enjoy the view.

Today was a bit bittersweet as Craig is now mulling over selling his Jaegermeister-liveried E30M3 race car. He's raced this car all over for many years now, this was perhaps the last chance to take some pictures of him an his car in action.

Looked like a trio of spec-E30's came out too.

John Handel of EMW was out with his very quick E36. He's raced this car in the USTCC, very well sorted car.

The very cool later version (black ring) of the '80s BMWCCA Golden Gate Chapter grille badge of Larry Ayers '74 Tii. There used to be boxes and boxes of these at my house growing up, my Dad Rich Jones was coordinator and sold them for the chapter, he was also chapter president through that era.

The Vintage 2017 was amazing!  Thank you to everyone who made the trek to Hot Springs to make this year the biggest Vintage yet.  There are lots of photos being shared over on our Facebook page but do yourself a favor and check out Reggie’s drone footage.  It really captures how massive this show was and how lucky we were to have such a beautiful setting and perfect weather.  Thanks Reggie!
