SoCalVintage 2017 - Pictures

A huge thank you to John, Jeff, and all the volunteers (Pierre, etc.) that make this show possible.  We are very grateful for your efforts.  This year's show was one of, if not, the best yet.  The weather was perfect, the variety of cars was more apparent than ever before.  The following pictures are FAR from an accurate representation of scale of the show,  hopefully you enjoy them nonetheless.

Got up early and picked up my drive for the event, a slick little E28 535i.

Met up with 2man from R3V, grabbed some coffee, and headed up the 405.

Very cool to see the variety this year.

Jeff Caplan of Odometer Gears brought out his recently near-finished 6-year-project E28 (sporting throttle bodies, a healthy turbo, mil-spec wiring and so much more).

Ireland Engineering was out en force.  Ken from VintageBMWRacing brought out an M10 on an engine dyno, pretty fun to see it fire up right there.

Matt Rhose and his crew from Ronin Autowerks brought out a few of their 2002 racers and restomods.

Jack Fahuna brought this neat M20'02.  Digging that header setup... ALOT

Neat to see the guys from BAT come out as well.

Couple cool NK's

Awesome Coupe sporting a stroker M30 running megasquirt.  This thing was beautiful.

Another beautiful car, this Taiga Green Bavaria was stunning.  Rey really knocked it out on this one.

Always happy to see the proper use of "there they're their".

Hard to believe Andrew's M20'02 was built a decade ago already.

Finally got to see Tony's new version of his M20'02 beast.

I talked quite a bit, and as a result didn't get many pictures during the peak hours of the show.  However, being around at the end afforded some really fun picture options.

Quick excuse to get my ride for the day in here.  It drove great, a sweet-heart of an E28.

There were quite a few interesting non-bmw cars worth mentioning as well.

Jan's S14-02 and Mr. Huff's Neue Klasse.

Very commendable that Mike, Emily, and Andrew booked it back from SEMA in time to come out with the E28 Parts Car with its new livery.

Jesus found this hood neglected in a yard a couple years back and had it hiding in his garage.  On Thursday he decided this was the year, and rocked it on his Alpina E12.  Her name is Lola.

Mr. Tom Jones rummaging in the back of the very same car he learned to drive stick on (it's still even running the same clutch).

Dan Melcher's F20'02 interior, in all its ostrich-leather glory.  Awesome.

Lovely traffic on the way home (happens every year).

It was a great way to spend the Saturday.

Thank you for sharing with all of us who couldn't make it down!... Really wishing we had now, but quite nice to live vicariously through your lens if just for a moment... I hope to see as many great cars there next year and bring something cool to show as well!

Great photos! I had a good time as a relative newbie, seeing old faces (not age-wise ;) ) and some new. Always learn something new and get ideas on how to proceed with the car.

Great selection to look at for any type of BMW fan. Thanks to the organizers for a great show!

Nice.   I had an e28 just like that 535is you drove.  10 BMWs later, I still miss it.

Looks like it was was a great event!  Nothing like that here except the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in June.

Mike, this reminds me of something you may be able to help with.  Why is it that the BMWCCA hasn't sought to just be a sponsor/vendor at the SoCalVintage?  It is a bit odd given the size of the show, the fact they bring their pop-up to other "non-sanctioned events", and the fact that plenty of CCA members attend.  If you don't mind pointing me in the right direction of who to ask, I'd appreciate it.

Jeff Kaplin's car is an E12, not a E28 as you mentioned above (pic #4029).  I used to own this E12 before Jeff obtained it. Needless to say, it's undergone a radical transformation since I owned it. http://www.firstfives.org/carmonth/may2009.html.

G-Man

Good catch, edited.  Jeff was kind enough to stop by the shop a few days prior to the show, jeez it is pretty. A very VERY well done bavarian hotrod.  Cool to know where the car came from.

Lemme finish the '67 CS, Andrew. I'd like to bring that car around to some out of state events. We're busy welding on it right now.

Yes, agree the CCA should either sponsor or have a presence at the event.

Probably best to contact the Regional Vice President, who I believe, is Jeff Cowan, to get the ball rolling.

i brought this up with the local LA chapter about 8 or 9 years ago and they just shrugged their shoulders. I stopped my membership shortly after.....
