This one came in a box of parts with my `76. I had some french language on the package....wish I could tell you more. Anyway, it's a lockable gas cap and I've never seen another like it.

I have one like the flat one pictured above..it is hard to remove without using the key since the cap is level with the body panel. let me know if you are interested.

yup..Im interested,,,can I see a pic?.....I just want to see how smooth the face is........but the problem of not being able to grab it w/o key is desirable!!!!............thanks!

Sorry, man. I love this one. It uses the key as the handle. When I retrieve my car next month, I'll see if I can figure out who the manufacturer is.

The cap on my car is chromed metal, non-locking with no markings and a cork gasket. The main surface is flat, not domed like the BMW cap, and the handle is more squared-off than the factory part. I have no idea where it came from (I suspect it's just a generic cap from an auto-parts store from sometime in the '70s or '80s), but I've not seen one just like it on another '02. Sorry, no picture now.

I'm pretty sure I have the same one as clay. It was on my parts car when i bought it. Only words on the back are-- "Brevete", "Non ventile", 'unbeluftet", "s.g.d.g", and "made in France"

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a black plastic Reutter locking gas cap sold to me by BavAuto. It is supposed to be for a 2002. It came in a bag with part number 16 11 1 103 603 on it. The bag says "GAS CAP-LOCKING,1600, 2002", but this can't be right. It fits on the car, but the lock is parallel to the car's body not perpendicular like the factory lock. As a result, if you stick the key in the lock, you can't turn it because the key hits the body. They gave me a new cap at no charge, but I can't help wondering what car this thing is supposed to fit. Any ideas??

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
