Front wheel bearings flat spot

rNot sure where wheel bearings fall in the categories but I was going to re grease the fronts on my project and after I cleaned the old goo off the first wheel I noticed that the inner wheel bearing has two flat spots 180 degrees apart on the outer cage. Since the car has seen some neglect and improper wrenching other than what I am doing I decided to shop for some new ones. Looking at a particular mfgr warranty information is listed years, miles, and then sitting. Never seen that and thought that it is possible on older cars if they sit for a long period of time that all of the weight is actually focused on a pretty small area and could bend. (makes sense) Anyone ever seen that before? Before I took everything apart there was no play in the wheel bearing but I would not put these back in. Thanks

That happens during installation and removal.

The cage (which is bent on yours)

doesn't do anything other than retain and

space the rollers.

New bearing and race, and you'll be good.

That said, if the cage isn't touching anything,

that won't hurt anything.

Thanks Toby!. I went and fished the other one out of the cleaner and it is worse. One of the hubs had a different color seal so I know someone has been in here before. I guess the damage could just as easily been done if they did a butcher job removing the seal or I could have done it but I was pretty careful when I pulled these apart. I will reload as they are pretty cheap and the added bonus is that I double my car's value in the process.

Next question will be the rear drums but I need to get some shots for my questions.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
