engine and drivetrain Injection Vs Carb advice?

Hello fellow 02 owners!

 

I have an M10b20 standard carbed engine in my 1973 2000 touring. 

 

my friend has a M1020b from a 320i E30 is is possible to swap the engine easily or just swap the heads and inlet manifold etc. 

 

anyone done this before?

Yep, it's possible, and yep, many have done it.

 

The block may not have the correct mounting points tapped, and you will have to swap the 

oil pan and pump.

Alternately, the top end can swap onto your block, but the pistons are not ideal.  Or may

hit, depending on what your car currently has.

I had to look at that for a while. The carbs have only the function of throttle bodies, there's no fuel inside. The intake ports are welded weber ports/tii port 50/50. So this is one more version of A4...

It's the candy apple air filter housing that makes it go fast!  Nicer than the black thing that usually sits there.

Yes- just try changing the starter in a hurry on it.

I have seen a stripped (single) DCOE used as a throttle body on a Mini before but never coordinated with mechanical injection.

Bet the linkage is fun to adjust and balance (and by fun I mean excruciating).

Also seen a carb arrangement that used two halves of two DCOE to basically make 2 single barrel carbs. Seemed like a lot of cash to burn to obtain a slightly straighter shot into the inlet port.

What I dont understand is, that having gone to all the trouble of creating individual throttle bodies, they then severely restrict airflow by using the ti air filter with its tiny air inlets.

One thinks it's not a performance- oriented setup, I agree.

 

I've seen triple IDFs where not all the barrels were connected...
