Front Sway Bar - Removal Tips

Hey guys,

First I just want to say i'm very thankful that we have this group together. I've learned a lot in the time i've been a member here and hope I can add some good information to this Forum as well when I get my build thread/blog all done with.

Subject is a 1976 2002 AT that has been fitted with an M20 and G260. I got it running last night and noticed a screeching sound coming from the front crank pulley area. Upon closer inspection I found that the Pulley is just BARELY touching the front sway bar..

Long story short, eventually i'd like to run a better sway bar but for now, I just want it off. I barely got a chance to take a look at it as I had just got the car running around 11pm. I'm going to pull the bar tonight, was just curious if there are any "pro tips" I should know.

Really hoping it's not too bad, and that I don't have to do anything like drop the subframe, etc. etc. Cheers.

It really is that easy. Maybe 15 minutes if you aren't Marshall. :)

Just be sure you have the right Allen wrench for the mounts to the front subframe.

Can be easy, but i have run into difficulties with the sway bar hitting the tow hooks and the front fender lip when removing.

Given your custom engine setup and the pulley rubbing, you might want to look into the IE front sway bar which mounts in a completely different location than the stock sway bar.

That's what i'm thinking. I was able to drop one side easy enough, I didn't bother with the other side yet, just want to get this thing running before I tidy more things up.

I had trouble getting it through between the tow hooks and the front panel. I bent the tow hooks with a tire iron, and bent them back once finished..:)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
