Hi,

 

I bought a used AL46X alternator from an '84 318i and it had rather low output.  I figured I'd replace the brushes as a first step since they are pretty worn down.  In researching things, I noticed that Rockauto is having a closeout on genuine Bosch voltage regulators for this alternator.

 

They are priced at $5.58 each!  I ordered one.  Since quantities are limited, I thought I'd pass the information on.

Those are internal regulators, though, not the large external ones that are used with the OEM '02 alternators....

Correct.  It is for those who have upgraded to the 80-amp AL46X from the e30.  Seems to be a common wear-related failure point on those otherwise robust units.
