Indicators on my 1973 2002 stopped working so I removed what I thought was the flasher unit in the engine bay.

Turned out it was the horn relay. Now stupid me forgot to mark which wire came from which terminal on the relay.

I can not find a wiring diagram that shows the colours of the wires I have so am not sure how to refit the wires.

I have 4 terminals 87, 85, 86 and 30/51 on the relay and 4 wire colours brown, black, black, green/yellow.

What wires go on which terminals?

Hmmmm.... Something does not compute

 

You don't say whether it is a 6 or 12 fuse car, but regardless, I think you are missing a power wire and the brown wire shouldn't be part of the horn wiring.

 

The green-yellow wire is the relay-switched power-out to the horn and goes to the #87 terminal. The paired power-in wire to the relay should be red and goes to the #30 terminal. The red wire is continuously powered and can be traced back to the battery.

 

On the other (control) half of the relay terminal, there is a fused control power-in wire from the fuse box that connects to the #86 terminal. On my car (6-fuse roundie), that is green-blue striped. On the 12-fuse models, I think it is supposed to be black-violet. The easiest way to find it will be to use a multimeter to identify which lead get power when the ignition is turned on.

 

Finally, you should have a brown and yellow striped wire that is the "trigger" wire back to the horn switch. Pushing the horn connects that wire to ground and completes the circuit through the relay actuating the horn. That connects to the #85 terminal.

 

So... You seem to be missing a hot (red) wire and I am wondering if the brown wires (which are normally grounds) are actually the normal ground wires that should connect to a chassis ground located near the relay and not to the relay itself... Clean the wires well and double check the colors and then get a multimeter and start checking...

So, some time ago I installed my super hella horns; they initially worked for a short time, then stopped.  All of the conencitons appeared to be and still the would not work. Over this past weekend I changed the relay (new bosch relay I commented on in another post) and they beep beeped WHILE sitting in my garage, ignition on, car not started. So, I start the car and take off happy as a clam, beep my horn once horn still working, beep a second time I can tell only one horn is firing, try to beep a third third time and blah nada nothing. Now no horn.  damn it, what's going on?  Is it a grounding wire issue? help............
