engine and drivetrain Did I stick it in far enough? (Selector shaft seal)

Hard to tell without a picture. How far in is it? I would think it should be flush with the casing.

I found a picture of my transmission that shows the seal, so I cropped it.

Maybe you could tap it in a little more.

OK chief, she's in there all the way now.  Thank ya.  Now it's onward to installing my freshly rebuilt driveshaft from Aardvarc.  My old driveshaft was 1/2" too short, and the center U-joint won't even move in one axis unless you put a lot of strength into it and it then pops, hah.

When in doubt, go the extra mile. Though, I'd argue that quality is greater than quantity.

looks fine to me, I pushed mine until it was like a hair deeper than flush with cast.

Mine's not restored. I wipe my bottom.   

 

...and I try to keep leaks to a minimum.

Just beginning my search on this topic.. but how does one get that seal out? Do you just get a little "hook" tool under the metal seal body and work it out? 

 

I am ordering the tranny seal kit from Blunt and wasn't even aware there was a seal on that shaft until I started trying to figure out everything that came in the kit !!

Edit - Found all sorts of answers .. since mine is out of the car, I think I will pull the existing seal with some dental tool hooks.
