I needed more info on what I wont be needing in my engine bay.. such as will i need the bigh fluid washer bottle.. the relays on the side of the engine bay.. the ignition system. stuff like that

It is mostly up to you.

Do you want to keep your windshield washer system? If yes, don't throw it out.

Do you want to keep your horn and headlights? Leave the horn and headlight relays.

Keep brake parts. Get rid of coil and distributor.

Most everything that is connected to the engine can go, most everything else will stay.

If you need any specific advice, questions answered, etc. you can give me a shout. I've done the swap in a '74 2002 and can help with pictures etc. PM me and I'll give you contact information if you want.

But the whole emission wiring can be discarded, the starter harness can mostly be discarded. Most of the harness in the engine bay isn't really needed aside from brake fluid reservoir harness, lights, horns, washer bottle, etc. You'll basically be adding all new wiring with the M42 harness, but take your time and don't delete anything you aren't sure of until you're positive you don't want it any longer.

Best of luck! It's a worthy investment!

You will not need the radiator, engine, transmission, driveshaft, coil, any emissions stuff, battery tray. I recommend you buy JakeB's mounts, replace the existing and add return fuel hoses with new FI rated ones, new center driveshaft bearing, new E21 shifter platform shortened, new electric fan, new thermoswitch and relay, new throttle cable, etc. and collect the list of stuff from an E30 on JakeB PDF of the procedure.

Pierre2's links above are probably the most comprehensive, and there is a ton of info available through the search on this site. And if you decide to get JakeB's mounts, the job will be ten times easier than fabricating your own, plus he is incredibly responsive to any questions you may have.

Good luck, it is a great swap to do.

Hey guys ... did anyone swap out the old  washer fluid reservoir with something smaller? Mines almost touching the engine and I’ve had to apply heat tape to protect it. Would love a cleaner option

I assume you mean on the inner wing  by the exhaust?

You could try the old 'bag' style -

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
