Looking for someone to rebuild my Getrag 232

I've been putting this off for awhile now but it's time to get it done. The terrible shifting is making my driving not as enjoyable. Can anyone recommend a person/shop that has experience working on these transmissions? Preferably within 100 miles of Seattle

Or if anyone knows of a Getrag 245 for sale, let me know. Thanks

Contact Patrick at Midnight Motorsports 503-381-7287. He's in west Seattle. Either he can do it or he can recommend somebody. Patrick is your go to guy for all things 2002 realated. You won't find a better or more honest and reasonable wrench anywhere. And no, he isn't paying me to say this :-)

Yes Patrick is the man. You may be better off just buying a used good condition transmission, given the cost of rebuilding.

I always do it right the second time.

I'll have a 232 that has given me no problems at all available as soon as I pull my engine/tranny for M42 swap in the next few weeks. It is in Kennewick but I can have it in Yakima. I occasionally get over the mountains.

  • 5 weeks later...

How much would you want for it if I pick it up in Yakima?

I have it listed in the For Sale section for $200 but if you can pick it up in Yakima I am happy to knock $25 bucks off to offset your gas. Does that seem reasonable? Will come with the clutch on it but no shift platform.

Its currently in Kennewick but I can grab it next time I head down there and bring it up to Yakima.

Feel free to PM me here or email me at peter.klym@gmail.com

Oof, I guess mine might be a 242. Its the stock (I believe) 4-speed out of a '76. I will check the stampings next time I see it

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
