Need help wiring an electric fuel pump

Hi All

After going through several heads to get a good one, it turns out a Tii head is the winner, Of course it has no ability to connect the mechanical fuel pump  ---   so going with a Carter electric that pumps a max of 4 pounds pressure.  Wiring calls for a good 3 amp fused power source and a relay triggered when the ignition is in the ON or RUN position.

I plan on putting the pump and relay in the trunk and wiring .  Wiring this up at the end of the line in the trunk is something I understand and can accomplish

Just need to know the best place  to connect for the primary or main power  and where is the best connection for the switched power for the ignition On or Run position

As detailed a description  of how to locate these connections would be most appreciated

Thanks

Rob

If you have a 72-74 car, there's a stray wire under the dashboard near the hood release handle that's taped to the wiring harness and ends in an insulated terminal.  It should be live with the ign on and is wired through fuse 11, at least on roundies.  It's for the tii fuel pump and of course isn't used on carbureted cars.  Connect your feed wire to that, run the wire down the cowl under the carpet, then under the door tread plates, behind the quarter panel upholstery and through the existing wiring grommet behind the quarter panel upholstery into the trunk.  Easy route.

Mike,

My car is a 76 so while I haven't looked yet, I suspect there is no spare wire for a Tii   That would be too easy!!. Where else do I get an ignition connection ?

Do you happen to know where to get a main power connection ?

Thanks for the routing info.  I was planning on following the wiring loom going to  the trunk for both power and switch lines

+1 for the inertia switch.

I got mine from the same ford escort that I got my Megasquirt parts from.  Look in the trunks at your local junkyard near the gastank.  While you're at it, run the hot lead through an old headlight switch in the foglamp or rear Def switch position, then you have a secret killswitch at the first indent and also have fuelpump and rearDef/Foglamps at the second detent.

If you are only seeing 5v at the connector then you are losing some volts somewhere ?

Less obviously, this may be due to a poor connection so get a wiring diagram (try the tii register site for PDF copies) and then trace this circuit back to the fuse. You can probe for voltage at a few points to try and determine where the fault is. Check the fuse is not corroded in the holder and making a poor connection. The connection at the back of the fuse box can also be suspect (any issues with mice?)

For completeness, also check the battery voltage across the terminals.

Search does amazing things - I found this connection in my '70 and ran my electric fuel pump through it. PO had previously wired it directly to the line from ignition to the coil.

Now, not sure if this is going to cause problems in the long run, but will give it a go for now.

Super helpful thread everyone thanks so much ! I’m working on a 73 (sitting now 80% compete for 7 years in my garage LOL- trying to finally get moving and need to wire the pump as my next step -I bought a performance radiator through Ireland but the fan blades catch. Not sure if I should shave down the blades a bit or try to clear some clearance somehow?

Also running a thermo switched fan, running fine. Gets to about halfway up the gauge and stays there, even on hot days. A little loud but I bought the highest CFM Spal fan I could fit up in the nose.

Since I responded to that post over 2 years ago, have been running a mechanical fuel pump with no issues. That wiring setup was fine for the time I had it, fwiw.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
