I suppose it only makes sense: as '02 prices appear to skyrocket, so do parts prices.

Less than a year ago, an Aussie fellow re-listed an NOS Behr A/C faceplate on U.S. eBay 4 or 5 times. He received not a single bid at his $200 opening price, shipping included (he also offered a $400 Buy It Now, which seemed laughable since no one would offer $200). He eventually withdrew the faceplate.

Now we have a used example of the same faceplate for $372 plus shipping.

I was watching a cars show tonight in Aus called car SOS where they basically rescue and renovate cars for deserving people, it's UK based, and it was this (the UK bit) that made me notice / realise how good the supply for British cars was through Rimmer Brothers, they could even get brand new Stag wheels and a huge array of other parts, now last time I looked Rimmers were not insanely expensive.

I know we have a lot of suppliers Blunt, Rogers in the US (I'm sure I'm missing heaps) and a good few in Europe such as Jaymic and Walloth, and of course thankfully BMW themselves, but they are all getting quite expensive probably due to supply and demand scarcity and BMW's dart board pricing policy, but the question begs in my tiny mind anyway, why do we not have a lot more after market or remanufactured parts? Surely there is a market for it. will 3D change things? I don't know enough about it.

I must admit to getting a bit pissed off at some people who try and put ridiculous prices on 2nd hand bits, personally if I sell something I bought and didn't use, then im happy to get my money back, or if I have a part that someone wants, well come and get it, buy me a beer and its yours (within reason lots of beer for Alpina parts...kidding) and i can see plenty others on here who are willing to share. Maybe I'm a bit soft in the head or just stupid, but I drive a classic, love the scene (although it can be a bit slow over here) and enjoy chatting about cars, I'm not here to get rich. I just hope the knobs with way to much cash, and far too much concern for investment return on a classic go find another marque. Maybe I'm just old and getting grumpy :-).... Probably!

This has been one of my issues lately is the crazy prices for parts, locally it's sorta nuts too... I part out cars and usually make some money on them, but it's to help pay for some parts for my car, not get rich! There's a guy around here who wants 500 bucks for a rusty, empty,body shell. Drives me nuts.....

Check out the price of this Euro E30 M3 door, $500 each. Wow, I guess M parts stand for bring more money or the seller is delusional.

Needless to say, it's been for sale for months. Seller keeps reposting the ad. I've never seen a US spec E30 that didn't have power windows (maybe early E30 M10 318I) so these doors will probably be FS for a long time.

 

Remember the dollar is gaining strength against the Euro but I haven't seen a drop in prices in parts from Germany.
