IE Hydraulic Clutch Line Replacement Problem

Ringworm02

Recommended Posts

I am quite frustrated with the IE clutch line because it seems to be a few inches too short as compared to the OEM line. See attached picture.

Could it be a manufacturing variation/error?

There's just not enough slack. I spent a few hours over a couple days trying to install it, connecting it to the master side, then trying the slave side, to no avail. I am done trying to fit this piece, it's not worth the frustration. I am concerned that I will cross thread it and/or the line will fail from undue stress once I get it installed. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I haven't used the IE line, but just a generic flex line (parts store E21 I think), and I ended up using a short piece of hard line connected to the slave cylinder I think just to get up to the engine bay, and then used the rubber line to connect the master to hard line to allow flexibility.

The IE SS four-speed line fits perfectly fine, took me 25 minutes tops to put it in (jacked one side up, placed jack stand underneath, and shimmied under there with a sheet of cardboard and a 10mm wrench).  The only way I could replicate any actual issue was to tighten down one side before getting the other side's thread started.  If someone's doing that.... well it's not the parts fault.  On top of that I know MANY racers who have been using the line for several years and counting.

Here's a fully installed picture for you I just took.....

Nice part but it does look a pinch too tight.  what happens if you break a mount does it snap off the master or the slave cylinder?   maybe its just the angle of the photo you took

Looks are deceiving, the plastic ends you see aren't structural to the lines themselves.  I can understand all too well about how one can get inordinately frustrated with one part and blowing it out of proportion (I've done it more than once).  I actually grabbed a line the same length in the first place to show how it works, but I've actually got them about an inch longer already.

OP thanks for calling, good to talk with you.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
