Timing light purchase

Yes, esty, but I'm not in a big hurry and fighting thousands of Xmas-crazed Mexicans at my local Walmart (which has the 3rd biggest sales volume in America) is not my idea of fun instant gratification. :-)

And, my bad - they are only $83.62 from Walmart with either free shipping or free pick-up.

Thx, esty. I live in a border town of 20,000 where, according to the census bureau, 89% of the population is Mexican, Mexican-American, or of Mexican decent. On the other side of the border is a city of 380,000, where the overwhelming majority are, I assume, Mexican. We refer to all of these as Mexicans, as opposed to us few Gringos. As my wife can attest, I am not a racist regarding any nationality or ethnic group.

Back to timing light topic.... Bob, why don't you buy one from Sears (craftsman)? At least they stand behind their products after 1 year.

Never bought or ever will buy anything from Walmart and never ever walked in to their store

Bob, I have a Craftsman timing light that I bought at least 25 years ago, maybe longer--ever since I found out I had to set the 2002's timing with the engine running--I could time my Renault statically with a six volt light bulb attached to two leads so didn't need a timing light.

Mine has worked perfectly and IIRC came in a set with a dwell meter.

However, I've found over the years that I can set my timing by ear...and when I check it with the light and with the dwell meter, I'm almost always right in spec.  My late father-in-law would be proud of me!

BTW, be sure and use the correct specs for timing and dwell; if you've removed your smog stuff that can change the specs significantly, depending on the car's year.

Thanks, Mike.  A number of years ago Carl Nelson, rather forcefully, told me I'd been driving my '02 plenty long enough to be able to tune it "by-ear".  Considering that both of our '02s run very well I guess he was, as usual, probably right.

standard light and a tune box from Pat Allen. my light is a craftsman, probably 25 years old. (it's a shiny chrome job)

Sorry if any offense was taken, in NYC we call them "people"

now why would anyone take offense to being called a racist, especially when it comes from NYC.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
