Pulled the head off and found this... What do you think was the cause?

I found no marks on the pistons (Aftermarket Forged / dished for turbo) after cleaning them up. These marks were only in cylinder #1 and 2. Was it boost induced detonation or was it foreign material entering the chamber?

Definitely looks like it sucked something in. Seen it plenty of times on lawn mowers.... But whats weird is theres nothing on the pistons... Maybe the dings were there before the pistons were installed?

If there is NO piston crown damage, I guess it really has to be detonation.  But dang, a few of those lumps look so much

like chunks got shoved into them...

 

What pistions?

 

How was your squish clearance?

 

If that was mine, I'd use it for a N/A street head in a heartbeat, even if a skim doesn't clean it up completely.

Not sure I'd use it under lots of boost, though...
